In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king? Right?

Nope, he’s a pariah, he is misunderstood and ostracized because he is afflicted with some bizarre visions that no one in his world has the framework to understand.

The greek god Prometheus had the gift of foresight. He was born a Titan but he chose to remain neutral in the war between the Titans and Olympians. Since his name means "foresight," he was pretty sure that Zeus would win.

The creation of mortals is credited to both Zeus and Prometheus, however the gift of fire is the work of Prometheus. Zeus, angry at Prometheus for telling the mortals to sacrifice the bad parts of animals to the gods, takes fire from the humans.

Hiding a spark in a hollow fennel stalk, Prometheus gave fire back to man. Prometheus also warned his brother Epimetheus (whose name means "hindsight") about Pandora, but to no avail.

Zeus, to show his appreciation for all that Prometheus tried to tell him, binds Prometheus to a mountain top with chains forged by Hephaestus. It is there that he is tortured for all eternity by an eagle that picks at his liver. Since Prometheus is immortal the wound heals at the end of each day and is then reopened again the next.

Modern example. There is a coffee shop that has just changed hands. The new shopkeeper has many plans for his new space and the futurist knows that much of what the shopkeeper thinks will work, is going to fail.

The shopkeeper thought he could build out his new space without a building permit. The futurist told him he would need a permit before it was over, but he thought not. The electrical inspector caught him and stopped the job.

The futurist suggested he put out some free coffee every morning to remind everyone that this was a coffee shop while he remodeled. The shopkeeper ignored the futurist, and now his customers have started going somewhere else for their morning java.

The shopkeeper has decided to have high speed internet in his coffee shop. Not wireless though. He is going to put in computers along the wall and have a few wired connections. How ten years ago is that? People will not use the internet service if they have to sit in one area and plug in their laptop.

And to cap it off he bought the place from the previous owner for a lot of money, when he could have just waited for her to go out of business (about three weeks at the rate she was going) and taken over the lease for peanuts.

All this The futurist would have told him BEFORE he acted, if he was open to listening. The futurist could have saved the shopkeeper much time and trouble, but because he is blind, and has always been so, he has no framework to understand the one eyed man.
