Viranka was born in 1962. She grew up in the city of Ringerike, just outside of Oslo, Norway. As an only child she recieved as much attention as her working parents could give her. Her father worked full time at an iron ore factory in Oslo. Her mother would often take Viranka out to a dairy farm she worked part time at. Viranka hated going there. The only thing that made it remotely interesting to her was the owner's son, Nigel. Nigel was 8 years older than she was, and soon began treating her like  his little sister. When Viranka was 13, Nigel and some of his friends decided to form a band. Instead of dreading having to go to work with her mother, Viranka started looking forward to it every day.

Nigel's friends mostly ignored her, viewing her as nothing but a pest. Nigel, however, always made some time for her and began teaching her how to play his guitar. She seemed to be a natural with the guitar and before long could play every single song the band had written. Sometimes adding a few extra riffs of her own.

Needless to say, this distracted her from her studies at school. Not that she wasn't smart, she just wasn't interested in school books. This infuriorated her father. Finally as her 15th birthday approached he forbid her from seeing Nigel. This caused her to go into a crazed rage, throwing things around the house. Breaking toys and other things that she had cherished throughout her life. When finally her mother could calm her, the only thing left in her room, unscathed, was the guitar Nigel had given her, and some folders containing lyrics and other band information. But the folders were soon taken away by her father. He had wanted to take the guitar as well, but when he tried, it put Viranka into another frenzied state, threatening to kill him and herself if she didn't get the guitar back.

Viranka became reclusive after that. Barely speaking to anyone in or out of school. When she got home from school, she would sit at the kitchen table while her father supervised her doing her homework. As soon as she would finish, she'd head straight for her room and lock herself inside while she played her guitar. The only time anyone would see any emotion in her would be when she was performing for a mock audience or the few times her mother would give in and take her to work with her so Viranka could see Nigel.

Had her mother known what would happen shortly after Viranka's 17th birthday, she never would have done her daughter the favor. Nigel and his friends had  been gaining some underground fame with their band, Misgard. In fact they were about to sign with a record label. But Nigel refused to unless Viranka would be with them. So their plan unfolds. Viranka's father allowed Nigel and his friends to come over on her 17th birthday. They spent the night practicing songs and plotting. The following Friday, Viranka's parents would be out all night at a party held by her father's company. Nigel would come over to Viranka's in the band van, and pick her up; gathering as many of her belongings as she could carry. Then they would just drive until they were too tired to drive any more.

The night finally came. Viranka had packed up all of her clothes, and a few precious belongings she couldn't bear to part with. She scrawled a note to her parents and left it on the kitchen table. She was all ready to go when Nigel  pulled up to her house. She eagerly climbed into the van and excitedly greeted the rest of the band members traveling with them. At that moment she bid farewell to her past and sped off to her unknown future.
