This page has photos of my friends in Donetsk, Kiev, Berdansk, Ukraine (Ternopil is missing so got to go back to get pictures of my beloved friends there)! I loved Ukraine and thanks to the Fulbright I had the opportunity to live and work there. I learned so much and hope to return. After my visit some of my friends visited here on a Fulbright,and/or with IREX it was great to to have a part in that. When people like Soros, Fulbright and other philanthropists fund international education exchanges they really do achieve much for world peace, cultural understanding and human enrichment. My students and hosts were wonderful. I start this series with a little Ukrainian friend I made on the train, who liked my stuffed animal, named after my husky Juneau, and who graciously accepted this gift. I made so many friends on the trains in Ukraine, in Russia too, and my Russian neighbors in Ukraine are missing from this series, but I have some lovely photos of them at home. The food was superior in Ukraine, the only thing is I picked up a bad habit of drinking champagne and vodka, and my Russian neighbors' home-made WOW. This made me fat and while alchohol is ok for some people the sugar in it disagrees with me in many ways. I hope when I return to Ukraine, my hosts will understand if I forego their generous libations. I hope I can resist the temptations. Ukrainian champagne, espescially the red variety is yummy, better than French.... I went to St. Petersburg and Denmark inter alia a few months later so the little mermaid photo and a few St. Petersburg photos are here too....
