The Internet as Medium for Action
Many human rights organisations have websites which are powerful tools for increasing human rights awareness ("amplyfying voices for human rights"), and collecting signatures to launch worldwide campaigns. ICTs can enhance human rights advocacy by strengthening the virtual presence and networking capacities of human rights organisations, especially in case of acute developments and danger of human rights violations. Human Right Watch (Spanish, French, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic) uses the Internet in its activities to prevent discrimination, to upholdpolitical freedom and to investigate and expose human rights violations.
The Carter Center: guided by a fundamental commitment to human rights, wages peace by bringing warring parties to the negotiating table, monitoring elections, safeguarding human rights, and building strong democracies through economic development
Human Rights Watch also publishes special reports highlighting some of accute human rights violations.
Human Rights Internet is an international network of human rights organizations, a documentation centre, and a publishing house. The site includes information on in-house publications, human rights education, international human rights events, and UN mechanisms. It contributes to networking with individuals and organisations by using various communications methods. It also promotes human rights education, stimulates research and information sharing and build international solidarity.
Human Rights Interactive Network is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to insuring respect for human rights worldwide. It monitors local and indigenous human rights.
Canada-US Human Rights Informaiton and Documentation Network (CUSHRID Net):it seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information between human rights organizations; the establishment of uniform standards for human rights documentation, information management and exchange; the development of co-operative projects in the areas of documentation and information management so as to avoid duplication; the training in various aspects of documentation and information management; and contacts and exchanges with information and documentation networks in various parts of the world. AAS Science and Human Rights Program has been created to protect the human rights of scientists, to advance scientific methods and skills for documenting and preventing human rights abuses and to monitor the implementation of human rights.
Amnesty International is campaigning for an end of police brutality, torture and abuse of prisoners, the protection of asylum-seekers, the abolition of the death penalty and ratification of human rights treaties.

Institute for Global Communications (IGC) offers to host web pages and e-mail addresses for human rights activists. Its mission is to advance and inform movements for peace, economic and social justice, human rights and environmental sustainability around the world by promoting the strategic use of appropriate computer networking technology.
Globalvision is an independent film and television production company specialising in information, entertainment and educational programming. Some of the programmes focus on human rights.
War Criminal Watch created by Coalition for International Justice tracks and publicize alleged criminal acts of indicted war crimes suspects committed in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.
The International Rescue Committee provides relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflicts. NetAction is dedicated to educating the public, policymakers and the media about technology-based social and political issues. One of their activities is to train activists to use the Internet as a tool for grassroots organising, outreach and advocacy and to create effective grassroots citizen action campaigns and coalitions that link cyberspace activists with grassrotts organisations. The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote compliance of the participating States with the human rights provisions of the Helsinki Final Act and its Follow-up Documents as well as their reference to international law. It provides not only the current news regarding human rights violations but also the database of contact persons which connects human rights activists all over the world. The HURIDOCS-TECH Electronic Mailing List: distributes information on technology issues and how they may affect human rights information workers.
