Math-Science Day Field Trip
                  & Competitions

      On Friday, May 21st,
the Lake Ridge Elementary Gifted Center will participate in the Math-Science Day Competitions sponsored by Paramount Kings Dominion.  The entire facility has been set aside for this purpose and the park is not open to the general public this day.  All students, regardless of their regular day of Center attendance, will attend the Friday field trip that week.

Lake Ridge Center will be participating in:

Field Day Competition Events (One team of 4 per event.)
BioExpress/Science by Van – SOL correlated activities (Science Museum of VA)
Space Travels Exhibit – 20 interactive exhibits (Science Museum of VA)
“A Taste of Mad Science”- An exciting interactive show. (Correlated to VA SOLs)
Make&Take Activities (Science Museum of VA)
Picnic in the Park (All-you can-eat buffet included in your field trip fee.)
Special activities assigned by the Center.
These are designed to bring scientific theory and Math principles in action.
This will involve riding and/or observing some of the rides.

(No child is required to ride any venue that makes them feel uncomfortable.)
• Follow-up activities
– To evaluate and reinforce principles learned.

Due to the educational nature of this trip, only selected rides, food locations, games, and merchandise areas will be open throughout the park.  The show facilities will be utilized to conduct lectures, exhibits, and competition activities.  This is a special event and the park is NOT open to the general public that day.

All students attending must ride the transportation arranged through the Center, both to Kings Dominion and back to Lake Ridge Elementary Center. The buses will leave Lake Ridge Elem. At 7:30 AM sharp and return at approximately 5:30 PM.  It is important that you are here to pick up your child on time.   Parents are responsible for their child’s transportation both to and from the Lake Ridge Center on that day.  (You might want to start thinking of making arrangements now.)

This is a fun and exciting day for our children.  Safety and education are our priorities, but the fun just keeps slipping in.  Parent chaperones will escort small groups during the day.  Siblings of the Center students are NOT permitted, as the parents need to focus on the needs of their groups.  The Center students are our priority.
