National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April

This year it will be on Friday April 30th, 1999

And he shall be like a planted tree by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper~Psalm 1:3~

This is how the Bible describes a "Godly" man. Strong and wise, like a TREE with roots firmly planted. One who will not be driven by the wind. One that is not like chaff.

Some people plant trees to commemorate special events.
For the birth\par of a child or the death of a loved one.
Because it will grow and last for years.
So that they can remember.

"Arbor Day which has already transplanted itself to every state in the American Union and has even been adopted in foreign lands... is not like other holidays. Each of those reposes on the past, while Arbor Day proposes for the future."

-J. Sterling Morton----

Arbor means "tree" in Latin. Arbor Day is a special day that has been set aside for planting and caring for trees. The first Arbor Day was celebrated in Nebraska on April 10, 1872. It was started by J. Sterling\par Morton, a Nebraska newspaper publisher who encouraged Nebraskans to plant trees to beautify and enrich the treeless state. He offered prizes for the most trees planted; over a million trees were planted on that first Arbor Day.

Isaiah 65:22"They shall not build, and another inhabit;
they shall not
plant, and another eat:
for as the days of a tree [are] the days of my people,
and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

God created the trees.

Deuteronomy 16:21 tells us
where NOT to plant trees:

"Thou shalt not
plant
thee a grove of any trees
near unto the altar of the
LORD thy God,
which thou shalt make thee."

Ecclesiastes 3:2 Tells us
that there is a time for
everything under heaven.
" A time to be born, and
a time to die; a time to
plant,
and a time to pluck up
that which is planted;"

Genesis 1:29 " And God said, Behold,
I have given you every herb
bearing seed, which [is] upon
the face of all the earth,
and every
tree, in the which
[is] the fruit of a
tree
yielding seed; to you it shall
be for meat."

Genesis 1:11 "And God said,
Let the earth bring forth grass,
the herb yielding seed, [and]
the fruit
tree yielding fruit
after his kind,
whose seed [is] in itself,
upon the earth: and it was so."

Genesis 2:9 "And out of the
ground made the LORD
God to grow every

tree that is pleasant to the
sight, and good for food;
the
tree of life also in the
midst of the garden,
and the
tree of knowledge
of good and evil."

Bay tree
named only in Ps. 37:35, Authorized Version. The Hebrew word so rendered is ereh, which simply means "native born", i.e., a tree not transplanted, but growing on its native soil, and therefore luxuriantly. If the psalmist intended by this word to denote any particular tree, it may have been the evergreen bay laurel (Laurus nobilis), which is a native of Palestine. Instead of "like a green bay tree" in the Authorized Version, the Revised Version has, "like a green tree in its native soil."
