Well, I’m back at the old homestead in Dago, after a 3,200 mile blast up to Issaquah, Washington & back! We loaded up Brooksie to the plimsoll line and over, gassed her up, and left in the early even of Friday the 9th of August – bound for glory, or at least infamy. ;)
“There once was a Man from Boston,
Who bought himself an Austin.
There was room for his Ass,
And a gallon of Gas,
But his Balls hung out, so he lost ’em!”
Bloody glad I had JUST a little more room
Than the old 1275S!!!
There’s plenty of room for one’s possibles;
Note the Required Manual, Rubenstein’s
Rach’No.2, a little Satie, and various bon
mots to flash at unsuspecting college girls.
Not Shown: L Prima, Firesign Theater, Fugs,
King Crimson, Sundays, Souixie Sue, etc.
We had a cooler fulla goodies, maps & plans,  Chris had one of her custom trip books, ( she makes ‘em from scratch! ),  credit cards to create havoc, and a BFK to ward off banditos ( ever since drivin’ in Mexico, I don’t leave home without it ). Somehow we got everything into the MINI, with the seats folded, and had room for us both.  The trip up to L.A. started off auspiciously – as we got onto Hwy 5 North, first thing I see is a Yellow & White ’02 Cooper with 3 motorers innit heading the same way, just ahead! I scooted up to run next to ‘em and they gave us big grins & thumbs up as soon as they spotted us. We went the whole way up & thru Los Angeles with ‘em, playing tag and zooming the lanes. It was effing awesome! We eventually had a slow-down, ( quel surprise! – it’s L.A. dontcha know ),  and yakked with ‘em a bit. They were headed for the San Fernando Valley, and had to get off right quick, but they wished us luck, and we parted grinning.

Our plan was breakfast in Solvang, the pretty Dane-town up the coast from Santa Barbara. The trip at night went fast and smooth, and for the nite we ended up in Lompoc, home of Roger Ramjet – he’s our hero. Wow, another ‘60s flashback! Breakfast at Paula’s Pancake House, on the patio under the cool shade of the overhanging vines was delish. Gotta start off a trip with a big Scandihoovian breakfast!  Who cares how much pancakes, bacon, sausage and eggs yer eatin’?  It’s road food supreme!
First light at Lompoc Saturday.  Don’t
        ever think driving isn’t stimulating…..
        but now we’re REALLY hungry!!

“Py Yimminy! Lena, I tink I’m in
   Copenhagen!”
“Oh, Ole, yah never called me that
before!!  Anyvay, I tink ve are in Solvang,
    yah know.”
