This is a small Fire Lizard which I impressed almost by accident while I was wandering at Sapphire Weyr.
I had seen other fire lizards with other folk, but they all were the normal colors of gold, green, blue, etc. This one I almost stumbled over, since the egg lay half-buried and almost invisible against the brilliant sand!
When the small creature peered out at me, I had no choice but to offer it what little food I did have (since I don't carry much) and we were immediately bonded.
Now, the irony of this lizard is that of course it's white! Since having become an Outsider, I have gained abilities which I didn't have "before", such as the ability to seek out my ancestral spirits and allow them to channel their psionic powers through me. The side effect of this channeling, is that most things I touch or am near frequently, or when I use this power, change from whatever color they are, into a brilliant white!
I swear, I didn't touch him before he hatched!
I will name him Iza, for reasons which I do not care to delve into. Suffice to say that Iza is a lost child, and I am a lost man in need of company, we suit each other perfectly this way. |

Then, to my amazement, on another trip down a beach, I found this creature, which fluttered up to me and chirruped quite softly that I needed to adopt him.
He was pure white, just like Iza, and had a look of dragon about him. The little creature was much smaller than Iza, and before I realized it, he'd curled his little tail around my hair and had nestled in beside my neck, quite at home!
Iza landed on my other shoulder, curled his own tail around, and mentally announced that the teeny dragon would have a good meal every day, he'd fish or fly for something.
"Well, that's good that you're going to get along," I announced, "but could you find me something to eat too?"
Of course, Iza's shrill dragon laugh pierced my ear drum as it always did, but then I set about to name this new teeny creature.
"You remind me of my old employer Engell, he was all white like you, white hair, pale eyes, white skin... So I'll call you Little Engell, to honor him. He's been dead a long time, but I can still feel him sometimes."
I held out my finger for Little Engell to climb upon, and examined him, pleased that now I had two little white friends. |
