Vanya's Hydee Impression continued-- | ||||||||||||
When several others had begun to greet the small hatchlings coming from their shattered eggs, I realized that I was more than used to the deafening sound of the dragons above. I could see my little white flit flying about overhead, chirping distinctly in that way that it does. I looked up and smiled, and then looked back down... Into the hungry, eager eyes of a Blue dragon who had come up to ... to me! The sense I had, suddenly, felt like all my old life was a blur, a wash of happiness and fulfilment came over me. >>I am Ruarth,<< he said to me, and because my mind was made for such interactions, I accepted his voice and let it settle into my soul. "I'm so glad I came here," I whispered, "come -- you're hungry, and they're giving out meat here--" I helped the tall blue off the burning sands, but I could barely see for the tears in my eyes! The feeling was ... inexpressable! Joy and longing, and the overriding hunger and exhaustion of a newborn dragon! |

We went to get some food, that the attendant warned not to eat too much of, nor too large chunks. Ruarth was ravenous, but I also had the wisdom of my old Animal Master friends to rely on, my old memories of other events on Zekira tendered themselves into my mind. "What's he called?" The woman handing out the cerimonial robes asked me, as we -- now saited -- walked into the weyr bowl proper and into the sunlight. "His name is Ruarth," I announced proudly. "I hope that I'll be accepted here in the Weyr, I'm..." I looked down at myself, the robe barely went to my thighs, let alone to the floor like the children and teens present. I felt more than a little embarrassment right then. But ... >>You have me by your side, my friend,<< Ruarth bespoke me. And the smile on MY face almost burst. |
