Baseball season will be starting soon so get out your caps and plan on attending our games. Lynchburg Post 16 Cardinals won the District and went on the win the State Tournament in Danville. We are proud of the boys and their coaches and our local members who supported our POST team. If you know anyone who was a sponsor last year or a new one for this year we are looking for sponsors again this year. The average amount spent on each game is around $225. We have to pay the announcers, field crew, and umpires... This does not take into account the money for player uniforms and gas money for travel or funds to feed the players. Keep up with the local team in the paper and come out to games and support out local Post team.

Another comment on BINGO: With the help of a few dedicated Veterans we have revived Post 16 Bingo. BINGO is making money for Post 16. We need more attendance for us to be profitable. Tell all your friends/neighbors that we have BINGO every Tuesday night. Doors open at 5:30 PM for our Instant Bingo ticket sales. The first regular game starts at 6:30 PM. Come  out for a night of Clean Family fun and help your Post. We ask you to consider volunteering Tuesday Evening.

WE remind all Veterans that their wives can join our Auxiliary organization and continue to assist Veterans and our community. If you, or your wife have questions about the fine organization for ladies to assist Veterans, please call Ms. Gladys Millner (Auxiliary President) at [434] 821-0059 or Ms. Louise Leonard at [525-5480]; for more details about how wives can join a worthwhile organization. Our Auxiliary works helping our wounded and homeless brother/sister Veterans at the VA Medical Facility and Housing facility in Salem, VA. If you need an application you can also visit YOUR Post 16 office for applications for the American Legion Unit 16 Auxiliary.

We do encourage everyone to PAY their American Legion DUES on time so everyone can use the PARK this Spring and Summer. We spend a great deal of space last year in this column asking members to pay their dues. It became embarrassing to some who arrived at the Park and we had to ask them to pay their dues, before they could be allowed to enter the Park.

If Legion dues were unpaid it was no longer their Park. “Your” Board of Officers spends a majority of our income to help Rescue Squad, Fire Department, local schools, children Baseball Teams, and our VETERAN brothers/sisters NEEDS in our community.

We cannot help “some” veterans or local requests for funds because DUES are not paid. Would you feel embarrassed if we had to deny a Veteran money or a sick child money because YOU had not paid YOUR 2006 American Legion DUES? We get no support from ANYONE except what YOU give us by way of paying your DUES and what we receive as a donation from our Tuesday Evening BINGO Game. We [Post 16] have a quota to satisfy for the American Legion {National}. We are again asking that you pay your dues so we can help others!!
