THE HEART OF
NIGHFANG SPIRE
The elves saw the door open. Gwynn was sleeping.
Varden and Taliesan didn’t wake him when they and the cougars tracked the
invisible intruder down the hallway to the double doors. No point in continuing;
he was evidently alied with the huge elder fire elemental guarding the room
beyond. They’d slay it in the
morning.
We use greater magic weapon, quench and an ice mephit to slay the
fire elemental. Afterward, the cougars corner someone invisible in the shaft
room but it gets away.
Varden scouts out the shaft and the party descends the 300 feet. Just
before Griffon heads down, Reynaud appears and tries to bull rush him down the
hole. Griffon hits him with an arrow and feather
falls his way down. Reynaud says “good luck in the abyss!” and disappears
again.
We find another room full of girallons and slay most of them. The last
one speaks, in common, “if Gulthias wants us to clean we’ll clean!” Realizing
the party can talk their way out of this one, Varden uses animal empathy to get
past the other girallons and get an audience with their leader, a female named
Thief the Smart. We broker a truce based on our mutual hatred of the Vampire
and Thief loans us one quarter of the key, a safe room to rest in, and a guide,
Konk.
The next day Konk leads us into the catacombs where we fight four mohrgs
and a wicked tombstone golem. We
barely slay them, but not before the golem fells Konk.
We heal him and leave off trying to decide whether to go back or go on.
