Varina Junior Newsletter January 2003 |
Dear Friends, Welcome to 2003! I hope everyone's holiday was joyful and you are well rested for the upcoming club events. This is a pretty busy month getting ready for our dinner theater in February. There are advertisement sales to follow up, tickets to sell, fliers to make and pass out, food to order and desserts to make. We also need to come up with an easy and inexpensive table decoration to make. I understand this can be a confusing and sometimes overwhelming project for new members and I encourage "Big Sisters" and "Little Sisters" to keep the lines of communication open… no question is too small! January 25, 2003 is the deadline for all project reports to be sent to the Lee District. We will have a reporting workshop Sunday, January 19th (time and place to be determined), where we will go through the minutes of the past year and compile narratives for the projects we did in 2002. This information is compiled at the District and State levels and sent on to the Federation, thereby giving a total of all projects, hours and money volunteered by the women of the GFWC. This is an astounding total! Page McLaughlin, VJWC President Greetings! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic start to the new year. The play "Lie, Cheat, and Genuflect" has been cast and practice has begun. The cast includes the talents of Wayne Gathright, Frank Hollis, John Warriner, Travis Gathright, Margaret Redford, Charlotte Sheppard, Connie Madison, and Melissa Hines. Please, keep your eye out for a silver tea cart with a dome shaped serving lid. This prop is essential for the first act of the play. I will forward you a complete list of props later. Also, we are in need of someone who can help with lights and sound. Please let me know if you or your husband, boyfriend, etc. is interested. THANKS!!! Thank you for all that you do for our community. You are a terrific group of friends! Melissa, Vice President |
Hey Ladies! It's hard to believe the holidays are over, and we're into the new year. Lots of information to pass on to you: The Varina Woman's Club is holding its craft show on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m. at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church on Route 5. They have invited us to participate in the show. The categories are as follows: Art (paintings, printings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etc.); Needlework (appliqué, cross stitch, crewel, crochet, embroidery, knitting, needlepoint, quilts, rugs, sewing, etc.); Crafts (ceramics, Christmas, dolls, jewelry, paper, porcelain, pottery, woodworking, etc.). Entries must be delivered Friday, Jan. 17th between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. (entering in the rear of the church by the kitchen door may be easiest). If you would like to place an entry, please contact me so that I can let the VWC know who and what to expect. If you do not have something to enter but would like to attend the craft exhibit, please feel free to do so. Mildred Dawson wanted me to pass along that there is ALWAYS a standing invitation for the Juniors to come to the VWC meetings. Dinner Theater Ad sales are going great. As of January 1, we have collected $550 in ads. Jennifer and I will provide everyone with a list of businesses that need follow up calls at the meeting on Jan. 21st. If you have any new ads, please bring them to the meeting. It takes longer to get the new ads established in the computer, so we would like all new ads turned in by the 21st. If you have money in hand now, please give me a call. I am trying to get to the bank weekly to make deposits. I hope everyone had a great holiday and is looking forward to the new year. There's lots of work and lots of fun for all of us in the months to come! Stacie Baird Treasurer |
