The Varina Junior Woman’s Club Welcome’s You!... ... with a message from our President. Here we are at the end of another year. What a great year it's been! We've participated in so many things and worked hard to benefit our community and we've had a lot of fun on top of it all. Each of us should be proud of all that we've accomplished. I know that I am! Since this is my final article as VJWC's President, I'd like to take this time to thank you all for allowing me to do this job for the last two years and for being so supportive. I have learned so much, and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The ladies of VJWC, both past and present, are my dearest friends, and for that I thank you. I'd also like to thank the incoming board for so willingly stepping up and taking on the jobs that they will be assuming or continuing for next year. I know that I speak for the entire club when I say that you can count on our support! I look forward to seeing you all at May Banquet for our final gathering of the year. I know that we'll all enjoy having Becky Simulcik come as our guest to install our new officers. Enjoy the summer, and I'll see you in September! Holly Dent President |
...A note from Page As our end of the year banquet approaches, I look back on the things we have accomplished together… Thanksgiving and Christmas food drives, Red Cross speaker, shoe boxes of toys to war torn countries, play practice and Dinner Theater, ad sales, District and State meetings, reports, etc…and all this in just a short time. We may bemoan the fact we are a small club, but I am very proud of the women in the Varina JWC, because we make a powerful difference in our community! Most importantly, we have fun doing things, sharing ideas and just being with friends. My hopes are to keep in touch with my “club” friends over the summer by planning a picnic, one for the whole family, at Dorey Park or somewhere Pat can burn a hotdog! A committee sign up sheet will be passed around at the May meeting. Think about what your interests are and consider signing up for more than one. The committees are where the ideas blossom, but to make the idea grow into a fruitful project it takes many members. As my Grandmother always said, “Many hands make the work lighter.” I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the banquet, May 5, 2001 at 6:15 PM, at the Dockside Restaurant. Becky Simulcik, our Lee District Junior Director, will be our guest speaker and installing our new officers for the 2001-2002 club year. I’m thrilled to have been chosen to serve as President of the VJWC for 2001-2002! Page McLaughlin 1st Vice President |
A note from Melissa… Hi Ladies! It is hard to believe that the 2000-2001 VJWC club year is winding down. Thank you for all of your hard work. Our efforts have helped many local organizations and charities. While the club year is coming to a close, please continue to talk to your friends about joining the VJWC for the 2001-2002 club year. I look forward to working with you next year. Happy summer! Melissa Hines 2nd Vice President |
Treasurer’s Notes Can you believe our year is almost over? It seems like yesterday we just got started! I hope to see all of you at the May banquet. Don't forget to bring a check to pay for your meal(s). Pam Hughes Treasurer |
Health & Homelife Collection! At the May banquet, I will be collecting items for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. They need new layette items and accessories. They can always use maternity clothes (used, but in good condition). For those who may not have been at the meeting, Crisis Pregnancy Center gives options other that abortion to young women who have become pregnant and need assistance. So if you have anything you would like to donate, they would be most appreciative. Thank you for helping a cause that is very important to me. Have a good summer! Pam Hughes |

Editor’s Notes As fun as it has been to be the editor of this monthly newsletter, I must say, I will be relieved to give up my midnight rendezvous with my computer. Deadlines… shmeadlines! My request for articles and general newsletter fodder has been met with “Uh, well… um…when?” and many a blank stare: therefore, it is poetic justice that Holly Dent has volunteered to be the new Editor-in-Chief of the Varina Newletter. Congratulations, Holly! Page McLaughlin Editor-in-Chief |
