The Vasavi Trust was created with a small corpus out of the personal savings of Mr.V.R.Vasudevan, Founder and the Managing Trustee on 11th April 1994. It was duly registered as a charitable trust. Mr.V.R.Vasudevan was then a serving senior officer of Indian Railways. Himself and his family members have been contributing regularly from time to time to build up the trust. The Trust has been investing them prudently in banks and such approved institutions, which has helped it to grow. On voluntary retirement from Railways, Mr.V.R.Vasudevan has set apart a part of his terminal benefits for the Trust. Few donations were received subsequently from persons who happened to know about the activities of the trust. Now the trust has got a modest corpus. With yield from the trust funds, many charitable activities are being carried out. The trust was declared a Public Charitable Trust by a supplementary deed on 27th May 1999, incorporating the clauses in conformity with laws governing Public Charitable Trusts. The trust vide order no. DIT(E) no.2(229)/99-2000 dt. 26-11-99 was recognized as public charitable trust by the Director of Income Tax, Chennai and granted exemption from IT for three years for donations U/s 80G in terms of letter no DIT(E)no2(299)/99 - 2000 dt. 29-7-2000. This was being further extended and is now valid till 31-03-2008. The thrust area of the functioning of Vasavi Trust had been and will also continue to be supporting education mainly for the children form very poor families who do not get assistance from any other source. The objective is to inculcate importance of basic education & training among children who have no access to proper education & provide necessary assistance enabling them to obtain the same. This ensures that they do not get denied the opportunity to develop to their full potential and become not only self-sufficient but also reach such status in life to serve as role models and encourage others similarly placed to come up in life. The trust also works on the following core objectives:
To help poor, destitute and challenged children to grow to be useful citizens and be self-sufficient, thro' education and training.
