Why Join the Virginia Shooting Sports Association?
Gun owners in the Commonwealth should join the Virginia Shooting Sports Association (VSSA) because VSSA is the organization in Virginia that is on the front lines protecting our outdoor and shooting sports traditions. VSSA is the only pro-gun organization in Virginia that is also an official state affiliate of the National Rifle Association. VSSA is well respected in the halls of the Virginia General Assembly. Our legislative team is there everyday the legislature is in session to ensure that our freedoms are protected. VSSA is also responsible for conducting state level shooting championships and selecting the "best of the best" to represent Virginia in the individual and team competition at Camp Perry, Ohio. These "Team Virginia" members are selected from individual members of VSSA and affiliated sports clubs.

VSSA is not flashy. We are not interested in seeing our name in the press but instead are interested in protecting our Second Amendment rights in the most effective means possible. We believe Virginia gun owners are best served when gun rights groups do not compete with each other to claim credit for successful efforts that advance our freedom.Professional, productive, interest groups at the Capitol must spend hard money to win. VSSA does that and it has a record of winning that now stretches back over more than twenty-five years. In that time, we have learned much more than the organizations that are more vocal. We believe that Virginia gun owners have been better served because of the care, caution and professional demeanor VSSA demonstrates as they defend firearm freedom.
VSSA has reported to its membership on each session over past years, and it has been careful not to be a braggart. We believe that often, the low key approach is best when working with elected officials. Through our objective reporting, our behavior and the trust and respect we have developed in the legislature, we have far better access to key decision makers than others. We also are able to sit privately with key people and learn what is in the big picture for a session. This kind of inside track helps VSSA to stay on top of issues.
