KNOW ALL YOU CAN

The more you can educate yourself on the subject of animal care and animal abuse, the more you will be able to get your point across to others. You'll know what you are talking about and that in turn presents an image of confidence!

SPAYING & NEUTERING

An estimated 80 to 100 million dogs and cats already exits in this country, and each hour thousands are added! Some are bred on purpose for profit; some are allowed to breed by people who want their pet " to have the experience", or for their children to see " the miracle of birth"; and some are let to roam freely and mate.

A female dog reaches sexual maturity at about 6 months and comes into "heat" twice a year. She can have a litter of puppies every six months!

Cats are about the same in reaching sexual maturity but come in heat every 2 to 3 weeks from February to late summer. One female cat can have 3 or 4 litters of kittens a year with as many as 6 to 8 kittens a litter.

One female cat and her offspring can produce 48 more cats in just 16 months. One female dog and her offspring can be responsible for the birth of 4,372 puppies in 7 years

The supply of cats and dogs far exceeds the demand for them! Unwanted animals are most often treated as a nuisance; incidences of kitten drowning and dog abandonment are very common. Many people drop off animals in rural areas thinking that someone will take them in or that they will be able to fend for themselves. The tragic results for these animals are cruel treatment, starvation, disease, freezing to death, highway death, being eaten by a larger animal, procurement for testing labs, and more breeding.

Animal control agencies and shelters receive approximately 27 million animals a year. Those not adopted, in about a week, aprx. 17 million, are put to death, killed by either a painless lethal injection or by other undesirable methods such as decompression chambers ( the air taken out of a large animal filled room, so the lungs collapse!), carbon monoxide poisoning, or as is currently happening in rural areas of my state, Kentucky ( among others!!!), being shot or beaten to death!
