The Body
For now I am using my current strat body, because it is essentially exactly what I need. It's a 3-color sunburst standard strat body. There's not much else to say about the body, except it is made of Alder wood and is routed for S-S-H (so I can choose to put in a humbucker later if I want).
For now, my goal is strictly with the body. I am "reclicing" or aging the body to look like SRV's original 1963 body. Let me tell you, this is no easy task....but it's not as hard as guitar manufacturers would like you to think. The tools I use are generally an all-purpose Dremel, lots of sand paper, a Mouse Sander, a file, and a variety of oils and polishes and stains for the wood.
This is what the guitar originally looked like, except this was after I put the new neck on. The old neck was a stock Mexican Maple neck with vintage-style frets. Also, you may notice a slight discoloration above the pickguard between the middle and neck pickups. This was due to my "experimenting" under the pickguard; one day I took off the strings and guard and experiment with paint stripping techniques on the finish beneath the pickguard. That way if I decided I didn't want to do it nobody would ever notice. However, I may have gone a bit too far and sanded away some of the laquer above the pickguard, which you see here. No matter, that whole section will be bare wood in a matter of weeks.
