My Dad,  Jack G. Lockhart Sr.
Jack Glispie Lockart was the third son born to Victor and Lillian Stump Lockhart. He was born on Sept 9, 1927 in Bluefield W.Va.  He joined the US Navy at the age of 17. He's entry into active duty is listed 10/4/44 . He was listed as Seaman First Class.
He was Honorably Dischanged on Oct .13, 1951. Having recieved the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal.
By the time of his discharge he was already married and father of two  children. A daughter named Linda Ruth, That he called "Wendy" and a son, Jack G. Lockhart Jr.
Daddy loved his family , church and community.  He was the firechief of the South Shore Vol. Fire Dept for many years. He was always very proud of the work the firemen did.  When they got their first new fire truck he was so excited. The first truck and pumpers that they got had to be bought used, Since the money was tight.
This picture was taken when he got his first chiefs hat and he was so proud. His mother had written on the back of this picture " Jack in his new outfit."
The whole family was proud. And we had a lot to be proud of. My father was a kind and devoted man. Devote to his family and always working for what he believed in.
This is me and my dad. It was taken in 1959 . I was 5 at the time. And I was my dad's shadow. I did everything that he did and always wanted to be with him. I even had my fire hat on too.

My father may not have known everything, but I thought he did. He may not have been able to do everything but I thought he could. He was and will always be my Hero.
My father died on March 25, 1971 at the age of 43. He did not live long enough to see any of his terrific grandchildren or equally terrific great grandchildren, but each one of them have been taught that he was a great man and even the youngest of the children know all about  papaw Jack. They can pick him out of our photo album . As they grow up they will be told more. Many of the people in our community still remember and tell of Jack G Lockhart . And what a great but short life he had.
