The family story says that Marietta B. (Belle ?) was named in Marietta, Ohio at the end of the civil war.
Her father James Harvey was in a prison camp and her mother Mary walked to Marietta, Ohio with the unnamed child that was born while James was away.
The women back in Va. had heard of the terrible treatment of the prisons and set out to see for themselves.
When she met with him the war had ended and the prisoners were released and James and some others where sitting on the banks of the Ohio river. James ask what she had named the child and she replied that she hadn't. She told him that she was waiting for him to name her.

Thus, the Child was named Marietta.
