Another Clue

He threw his clothes around, where were they? Wandering over to the other side, he picked up his pants and went through the pockets, still nothing. Groaning, he grabbed another pair and picked those up and searched those. This was the second time this week he'd lost them. Sighing, he threw the pants down, highly annoyed now. Maybe Marissa had seen them, of course she wasn't home though. She was never home. Grabbing his last pair, he heard a jingle and grabbed his keys from the pockets.

"Found em!" He grinned. He went to throw them back on the floor, when he noticed a white piece of paper on the floor. Picking it up, he quickly opened it and read it, the pants falling from his limp fingers.

Marissa,
Hey love. It's been too long since I've seen you, last week was incredible.
We need to get together again. Here's my cell number, give me a call when your
boyfriend is away, and we can make plans to meet again. I love you and I'll see
you soon.

Jacob

I was looking for something
On a crime scene, where you're in too deep
I found a note with his number
It's just another clue (That leads to you)

Slumping down on the bed, he rubbed at his eyes. He should've known, the signs were all there. He'd been suspicious for a while, but he didn't want to believe it. He thought back to last week.
************************************************************************
A Week Ago...

"Let's go out somewhere Marissa, we haven't gone out in so long. You know it's hard when I'm gone so much."

"I know baby, but I already made plans."

He frowned, he was barely home as it is. She knew this was supposed to be their time, and yet, she makes plans?

"See, a couple of my girlfriends were gonna go out for the evening, ya know, a girls night out. I'm sorry honey, I know you wrote me and told me you'd be home this week, but I guess I forgot." She whispered.

He couldn't believe this, she forgot? He didn't know whether to be hurt or upset.   "Marissa!"

"Baby I'm really sorry, but we made these plans a while ago, I can't back out. I'll make it up to you I promise."
************************************************************************
He looked back down at the note, she'd made it up to him alright. The next week it'd happened again. Of course even then he should've known, but he didn't want to think about it. God how could he have been so stupid! Shaking his head, he stood and looked around the room. He was sure there  were more notes. The realization was finally sinking in, maybe she wasn't the one for him.

I got a little suspicious
I should have known better
Than to buy your lies (Your sweet disguise)
Yeah, you can fool anyone
But I've got eyes to see
That you're not for me, babe

Shuffling through the papers on his dresser, he found another note, followed by another. When he sat back down on the bed, he had a total of nine notes, reading through them all, he found that each of them were from someone different. The anger was starting to build, all this time, and she'd been screwing around on him. Now it was just a matter of time, he knew what things were coming to.

No no, uh uh
Things will never be the same
No no, uh uh
Now I know what it's coming to
No no, uh uh
'Cause if you think that's it's the way
That love should be, let me tell you
It's not for me

Standing up, he looked around the room more. Now it seemed, the more he looked, the more things he found. Ties, dress shirts, socks, and in the bathroom. Bottles of cologne, aftershave, all these things, and they weren't his. It was the ultimate betrayal. In their house, in his bed. All this time and she was just using him, for his fame for his money. He thought he'd been so careful, he had to try to be so careful. Now it boiled down to who she wanted, who was gonna win at her games of love?

No, I don't wanna be part of your screenplay
Just tell me did you rehearse on me
Gimme the story
Baby who's to win (Me or him)

He was sure the other guys besides whatshisname, didn't know, didn't know they were being played. And here he was, caught in the middle. All those times of him calling around looking for her, her coming in late, all lies. Hide and Seek was over, he'd had enough. To everyone else, they seemed so happy. But he, he knew the truth, and now it was time for him to leave.

Caught in the middle and I'm tired of
Your games of hide-and-seek
I'm getting the feeling
That it's time for me to leave
You can fool anyone
But I've got eyes to see
That you're not for me, baby

"Sweetie! Sweetie I'm home!" Marissa called. "Baby? Where are you? Are you here?"

And just what would she do if he wasn't?

"Honey! Where are you?  Where is he? His car is in the driveway." She muttered.

He listened as she moved around the house. He heard her footsteps in the kitchen and then the dialing of the phone.

"Hey James, it's me. Yeah I miss you too baby. I don't know when I'll be able to see you again, it's been kinda hard lately. Well I've just been busy and shit."

"Oh yeah, real busy screwing everyone one to kingdom come." He muttered.

She was moving now, starting up the stairs towards the room. He was ready for her.

"I'll see what I can do James, it's just really rough. I know, I love you too." She stood by the door, her back to him.

He gazed at her, eyes narrowed. "Turn around." He whispered.

"Talk with you soon." She pressed the button and swung around, stopping dead in her tracks, her eyes widening. "S-sweetie. I didn't know you were how are you?"

He held up the pile of letters. "How long did you think it'd take me to figure it out Marissa? How fuckin' long damnit?!" He called, his voice surprisingly calm.

All color drained from her face.

"It's it's not what you think, I swear."

"Oh? What is it then?"

"I You don't know how hard it was on me! All alone while you traveled the world! I needed someone!"

"Nine different someones?!" He threw the papers on the bed. "How could you?"

"Please, try to understand. I love you!"

"If this is what you call love, then this isn't for me." He whispered coldly.

No no, uh uh
Things will never be the same again with you
No no, uh uh
Now I know what it's coming to
No no, uh uh
'Cause if you think that's it's the way
That love should be, let me tell you
It's not for me

"Oh like you can pass judgement on me! Not like you've never cheated on me!"

"If I didn't plan on staying faithful to you, I wouldn't be dating you. I've had enough, enough of your lies, and your games. It won't stop I know. I'm sick of it. I had a feeling all along, but I didn't want to believe it. No more, I won't be your dupe."

"So what are you saying?"

"I'm saying we're through."

"Wha? You can't be serious!"

"I've never been more serious."

"You can't do that!"

"Why not? Justify why I shouldn't leave your sorry ass! Tell me!"

I said no, no
I had enough of your talk, your games
And it won't go away
Justify my reasons to say, reasons to say

"Please, don't do this! I need you!"

"Why? To buy you things? I don't think so. I deserve better than this, than you. Now, get out."

"Don't..."

"OUT! GET OUT!"

Turning quickly, she ran from the room and out the house.  He sat heavily on the bed. He'd done it, it was over. Shaking his head, Brian sighed and then smiled. Bobbing his head, he started singing as he picked up his pants and headed out the room

No no, uh uh
Things will never be the same
No no, uh uh
Now I know what it's coming to
No no, uh uh
'Cause if you think that's it's the way
That love should be, let me tell you
It's not for me
