Chapter 28 "Ready to go?" "Yeah, just about finished here." "Alright, I figured I'd just follow you home and then we can head over to the restaurant. That okay?" "Yeah that's fine." Keyana smiled. She gathered her things and headed out the door with Shane, locking up behind them. They made their way over to Keyana's house and she got changed and then they headed over to the restaurant. Once there, the waiter seated them and left after taking their drink orders. "I love this place, it's really beautiful." Keyana announced softly. "Yeah I know. We should come here more often." "Shane, can I ask you a question?" "Of course baby." "How come you never cook for me?" "I thought I told you why before, I can't cook." "I mean, don't you like to grill and stuff." "Well yeah, but I mean I just don't have the time for that you know. Much easier to go out." Keyana blinked and looked down at the table. Busy? Nick traveled all over the world and he liked to grill, he had time to grill. He made time to grill, why couldn't Shane grill? Sudden anger flared up in her, she didn't know why it was bothering her so much. "Keyana? Honey what's wrong?" She looked up to see Shane staring at her. "Excuse me, what?" "I said what's wrong, you looked pissed just then." "Did I? Sorry." She snapped. What was going on with her? Shane raised his eyebrows. "Did I say something wrong?" "No, of course not." "Okay." Shane sighed, looking down at his menu. Nick would've asked again Keyana thought to herself, and he would've kept asking until she told him. She balled her hands up into fists on her lap. Look at him sitting there, he didn't care that she was upset. "So I was thinking of getting the lobster along with a salad and..." All he cared about was food, eating. Like you're supposed to eat here! Her foot jerked in frustration, hitting the table. Shane jumped and looked at her. "Sorry, my foot slipped." She muttered. "It's ok." Shane studied her. "What?" "Nothing." Keyana looked back down at the menu. Damn him! Damn Nick for making her think of him like this. How could she compare Nick to Shane!? They were two different guys completely! Feeling extremely stupid, she excused herself to the bathroom. ******************************************************************** "Dinner was great." Keyana smiled as they walked into Shane's house. "Yeah." Shane grinned, taking her hand and leading her over to the couch. "You know, I've really missed you. Missed us." Keyana looked down, she didn't want him to see the guilt. "I've missed us too." Shane lifted her head with his finger, bringing his mouth down to cover hers. It wasn't there. That feeling she used to feel with him when he kissed her, it wasn't there now. She gently pushed him away. "Shane..." "Come on Keyana, it's been so long and I've missed your body so much." Shane whispered, leaning in to kiss her. She tried to get into it, tried hard. Shane pulled her into his lap and then stood and started towards the stairs. No, she couldn't do this, it wasn't right. She pulled away. "No Shane, no. I can't." He stopped. "I'm sorry." "It's ok. No problem." Shane replied, slowly putting her down. "I'm kinda tired." "Why don't I just take you home then." Shane replied quietly. "Yeah, ok." Keyana muttered, grabbing her coat. Silence took over as they walked out the door. ********************************************************************** She dabbed at her eyes. That was one of the rare times she'd ever turned Shane down. She couldn't even really explain why, only to say that it hadn't felt right. Being in his arms didn't feel right anymore. She popped the pills in her mouth and took a quick drink of water. The headache started the minute after Shane had left. Guilt from what she'd done? Maybe. All she knew was, things were not the same anymore. The phone by her bed rang, silently praying it wasn't Shane, she picked it up. "Hello?" "Keyana, it's Nick." Her heartbeat increased. "Nick, good evening." "I hope I'm not calling too late." "No, it's fine. Just getting ready to head off to bed. Is there something I can do for you?" "Yeah I'm calling cause I wanted to meet with you tomorrow and find out how everything's going." "You could've called my secretary. I think she thinks you don't like her since you never call to make an appointment through her." Keyana chuckled. "Aww no. I think your secretary's great. I'll call her next time." "Good. Well I don't have my planner on me, so how bout I call you tomorrow morning and let you know my schedule." "Aight cool. By the way, you alright? You don't sound so good." "Yeah I'm fine." "You sure? Wanna talk bout it?" Keyana smiled, it was so like him. "No really I'm ok. Just a slight headache. Rough day." "Hmmm, sounds like you could use a massage." "Oh could I! I need a masseuse." She moaned, rubbing at her neck. This tension and stress was wearing her body out. "Just remind me the next time, I've been known to give really good massages." Nick murmured. Keyana swallowed hard. "That's ok Nick." "No, I insist. When was the last time you got one?" "Wow I can't even remember." "Your boyfriend, doesn't he ever?" "Uh, no. Not really. He's just really busy you know." "Know matter what, a guy's never too busy to make sure his lady is feelin' good. He should know that." Keyana's mouth dropped. Damn him. "Well I'll let you go honey. I'll be waiting for your call." "O-ok. I'll talk with you tomorrow then Nick." "Good night Keyana." Nick whispered. She could imagine that voice calling to her late at night. A voice filled with repressed passion laced with hidden promises, promises of things to come. "Good night Nick." |
