Chapter 13

"I don't see any cars or anything. Maybe no one's home."

"I'll go find out." Nick said.

"Wait, I'll go with you."

"No, you stay here."

She looked at him.

"Fine" He sighed, opening the door. He knew better than to argue with her.

They made their way out and ran up to the entrance and knocking, no one answered. Nick knocked again and still nothing.

"Now what?" Nyla questioned, shivering already.

"I dunno." Nick whispered, reaching out suddenly and turning the knob on the door. "Whoa." He exclaimed as he pushed the door open.

They stepped in, looking around.

"Hello!" Nyla called out. "Is anyone here?"

"Hello!" Nick yelled, walking in a bit.

There was no response as they looked around. It appeared that the mansion was deserted.

"Well, I think we should stay here, overnight at least." Nick stated, his hands on his hips. "No one's here and we can't stay in the truck."

Nyla nodded. "I guess we will. Let's go and get the stuff out the truck and bring it in."

They headed out, gathering up all their bags and whatnot and lugging it into the house, shutting the door and locking it behind them. They looked around, trying to decide what to do.

"I guess we should look around and see what's here." Nick suggested.

"Yeah, ok." Nyla walked up next to him and they picked a hallway and walked down.

Thirty minutes later, they made their way back to the main hall, frowning. They'd been at it a half an hour and they hadn't even covered half of the mansion.

"Damn! This place is fuckin' huge." Nick muttered.

"I know. Well I don't feel like looking around any longer, I just wanna get some rest."

"Me too, we'll just head out in the morning." Nick yawned. "Come on, let's go upstairs and see if there's any rooms or something."

They started up the stairs and then down the hall, looking in the various rooms.

"There's like, ten rooms here." Nyla blinked. It reminded her a lot of Nick's house, if you could call it that. It was more like a mansion in itself.

"Wow I know. Well, pick whichever one you want." He stopped at a room, pushing the door open and walking in.

Nyla stopped at the room across from him and went in, setting her bags on the floor. The room was dusty and dull. Walking further in, she looked around. The bed was still made amazingly; there was a thin layer of dust on the tables and lampshades. Looking around, she found an old rag on the floor and started wiping the table off. Tossing the rag down, she headed into the bathroom.

The sink was old and rust covered. Reaching out, she turned the knob and wasn't all that disappointed when no water came out, she'd figured. There was no power, which also meant there'd be no water. It's not like it mattered; they'd be out of there in the morning.

Walking back into the room, she made her way over to the bed, hitting and beating at the covers, the dust flying, she blinked, sneezing suddenly. Oh this was gonna be fun. She groaned and pulled the covers back, grabbing the pillow and hitting it as well, getting the dust off. Tossing the pillow down, she grabbed the one she brought and tossed it on the bed.

She looked at her watch; it was still early morning. Looking down at her bags, she decided she didn't need to unpack, there was no reason really. Stretching, she turned her attention across the hall to Nick. She watched as he went into an all too familiar routine, she'd seen him do numerous times.

He stretched, running a hand through his hair and then scratching at his tummy. He bent down, untying his sneakers and pulling them off and then unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans, starting to push them down.

Nyla looked away quickly, her face flushing.  She had no right anymore, none. She looked up at him again, unable to keep her eyes from him just in time to see him slip under the covers in just his boxers. Her mouth went dry; she had to get a hold of herself. Shaking her head, she started to get undressed.

He shivered, the sheets were freezing. Rolling to his side, he closed his eyes and then opened them quickly. There she was. He stared blatantly as she started undressing. First her shoes and then her socks. She never slept in her socks; she said it made her feel trapped. Slowly she moved her hands up her legs to the button of her jeans, undoing it and then sliding the zipper down. He squeezed his eyes shut, this was crazy, he was crazy. It's not like he could just look at her like that. She wasn't his girlfriend, not anymore.

Nick could hear the soft rustling of clothes and then blankets and sheets and cautiously opened his eyes to see her slipping under the covers in just her top and underwear. This was odd for her cause he also knew she never slept in her top either. Just the thought of it and he was immediately aroused. Cursing softly, he rolled over and forced himself to relax and forced his body to calm down.

Soon the mansion was quiet as they both fell into a deep and troubled sleep.
