Chapter 24
Looking down at her watch, she found that it was midnight, she'd been sitting there for hours. Deciding that it would be ok to leave him for a bit, she stood off the bed carefully and walked out and over to her room, grabbing her cell and sitting heavily, dialing her Mom. She waited while the phone tried to connect. "Come on, come on." She chanted. Finally it connected and rang. After the third ring, her Mom picked up.
"Hello?"
"Mom!"
"Nyla! Baby how are you? How are things? How's Nick?"
"I'm ok, but Nick's not, caught a bad cold. He went out today to get some wood for the fireplace and I think that's what did it. He's sleeping now, so I thought I'd come call and see how you were and check on Grandma. How is she?"
Her Mom sighed. "Well she slipped into a coma early this morning, so now we're just waiting to see what happens, we're so worried."
"Oh god, I'm really trying Mom. I'm trying to get there as soon as I can. As soon as this storm lets up, I'll be there."
"I know honey, I above all want you and Nick to get here safely. Tell him I hope he feels better soon. I'm gonna get going, go back and sit with her. Take care baby."
"I will, give my love to Dad and give Grams a kiss for me. Love you Mom."
"I will, love you too. Bye."
"Bye Mom." Nyla hung up and sighed. She had to get there soon. Standing, she made her way back into Nick's room, pulling a chair over and sitting, watching him closely. The shaking seemed to have stopped for now.
Hopefully, he'd be feeling better in the morning. Reaching out, she place her hand over his and sat back in the chair, drifting off a short time later.
