Chapter 29 Nyla shut the door and walked back to her room, grabbing her cell and starting down the stairs. She dialed as she made her way down and sat on the couch, praying for a connection. Three tries later, she got through and was relieved when the phone rang. "Hello?" "Jane? It's Nyla." "Nyla! Sweetie how are you? How's Nick? How is everything?" "Hi, I'm doing alright, everything's ok finally. Nick just got over being sick, he had a bad fever last night and now he's resting, that's why he hasn't called. I just wanted to get ahold of you and let you know, I know you must be worried sick about him." Nyla explained. "I was, his Father and I have been so worried. We've tried numerous times to call his cell and yours, trying to get through, but with no luck." "I know, we're really sorry. The connection is so bad that's it's nearly impossible to get through." They were already starting to break up; she had to finish quickly. "Please, keep us updated honey. Tell Nick to call Celeste as soon as he can, she's worried as well." Jane went on. Nyla sighed, she felt bad for Celeste. She knew she must be scared since Nick hadn't called in a while, not to mention Scott. She really had to try get ahold of him as well. "I'll tell him Jane, I promise." "...You...of each...I...can..." "Jane, you're breaking up, I'm gonna let you go. Try to conserve my battery." "...Right...know if...change won't you?" "I will, I'll let you know if anything else comes up. We're gonna get going as soon as we can." "Ok honey, be careful and I'll talk to you soon." Jane called. "Ok, bye Jane." "Bye." Nyla hung up and took a deep breath, dialing again, trying to get ahold of Scott. Five attempts later, she stopped. She missed him a lot, she wanted so badly to hear his voice, and knew he must be worried as well, but there was nothing she could do. Picking up the phone again, she dialed and again couldn't connect. Frustration was starting to set in; once again she tried and again couldn't get through. Sighing heavily, she turned the phone off to save the battery. Rubbing angrily at her eyes she stood, starting back up to her room. It was too lonely down there with no one to talk to. Making her way into her room, she slumped down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling, thinking. She felt bad, really bad. Through out this whole thing she really hadn't thought much about Scott. She missed him of course, but she'd been preoccupied with everything else. Nyla was ashamed of herself on many levels, but what could she do? Their relationship was odd anyway. She couldn't make excuses for it, but it wasn't hurting her as much as it probably should be, and that's why she felt so bad. Sighing heavily, she grabbed her notebook from out of her bag, her CD player and headphones and sat on the bed to write. |
