Chapter 47 Stretching, she rolled onto her back, sighing softly before slowly opening her eyes. She stared up at the ceiling for a full minute before slowly bringing her eyes down, chewing at her lip. Turning, she looked next to her and her heart dropped, it hadn't been a dream. Part of her had expected to wake up and realize that last night had just been a dream, a memory of time past, but it hadn't been, it'd been real. Shifting, she backed away a bit so that she could look at him, it was as if time had reversed, shifted. It was like any other morning when she'd wake up and see him beside her and it felt so natural. What happened now? Where did they go from here? It was questions she wouldn't allow herself to ask last night, but they were still here in the morning. Everything had changed, everything. She didn't want to think about the fact that she'd cheated on her boyfriend and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't feel as bad as she knew she should and that was even worse. She'd been a bad girlfriend here lately, and this just made it worse. Nyla couldn't think anymore, it was too hard, too many thoughts running through her head at once and now they were starting to jumble. Too much emotion in the last few days, but she wasn't sorry. Not for anything and most definitely not for last night. She was a firm believer that things happened for a reason, and even though nothing would come of what'd happened, Nyla knew it'd happened for a reason. Bringing her hands up, she rubbed at her face. "Hey." She brought her hands down and looked at him, smiling shyly. "Morning." Nick reached out, running his fingers over her cheek gently. "I'd almost forgotten how beautiful you looked in the morning." He whispered. Almost, but not totally. She was breathtaking and his breathing was extremely labored. God he wanted her again, and again. It couldn't happen of course, it could never happen again. He wanted to hold her though, hold her tightly and never let go again, if only she'd let him. He knew he should be worried about the fact that he'd cheated on his girlfriend, but he wasn't, he just wasn't. Not in the way he should be when a guy cheats on his girlfriend and not after that last phone call. He knew at that point that anything that happened after didn't matter, after that call he didn't know if they'd make it. For some reason the thought of it possibly being over gave him hope. "How do you feel?" "I'm ok, just a bit worn ya know? Been a rough couple of days." "Yeah, you've been through a lot that's for sure, but you've handled it all really well." Nick grinned. "Yeah, aside from me spazzing and sobbing like a fool. Look, I wanna apologize for all of that, the screaming and...hitting." Nyla winced. "I have tendency to be a little over dramatic as you know." "Stop apologizing, I understand. It's not the first time ya yelled at me or the last time I'll be beaten to a bloody pulp." She smacked him lightly, trying not to laugh. "Stop it!" "See! There ya go again!" "Nick!" She shook her head, sitting up and Nick followed, sitting up and looking around. There was an uncomfortable silence as they looked at each other then away. They were too aware of each other, of the state they were both in, of what'd happened just hours before. They really couldn't look at each other, a bit self conscious and a little nervous at the same time. Neither knowing what to say or how to act now, Nyla tightened the sheet around her, looking down. "I'm just gonna...um...go look..." Nick murmured, slipping out of bed quickly, grabbing his boxers from the floor stepping into them and pulling them up. Nyla watched out the corner of her eye, licking her lips as he dressed in his jeans and made his way over to the window, pushing the curtain back and looking out. "Whew, it's pretty bad out here. They weren't lying when they said the worst was coming last night, I can barely see out, the screen is covered with snow." He whispered. "Get my stereo and lets see if there's any new information." He walked over, grabbing her stereo and setting it on the bed and flipping it on, the station coming in immediately. "The National Weather Service has lifting the Winter Storm Warning for the area, the worst of the storm is over. People are advised to stay indoors for the rest of the day however, and not to attempt to leave or drive anywhere until tomorrow morning. Crews will be out salting the roads and plows will be out as well all day." "Wow, it's finally over." Nyla whispered, staring hard at the stereo. "Yeah I know, we can head out in the morning then." Nick responded. She nodded, and looked up to find him watching her. "I guess we should...start packing again." He nodded, "Yeah." "Yeah...ok." Nick stood suddenly, setting her stereo back down. "Ok, so I'll just...go so you can get dressed and..." He looked over at her quickly then away, starting for the door. She watched him walk away and felt her heart starting to break again. "We can meet downstairs in a few minutes to get organized and do a check and get everything up together now so we can head right out early tomorrow." Nyla nodded, "Ok, that's a good idea." "Yeah, so I'll see you downstairs in a bit." "Alright, see ya then." He turned and looked at her for a moment before walking out, shutting the door softly behind him. |
