Chapter 9
"No!" They both yelled in unison, looking at each other uncomfortably.
"Why not?" Brian questioned, looking between the two of them.
"That's a great idea Bri." Kevin smiled. "This way if anything happens, you'll have each other to rely on."
"No, absolutely not. We're going to two different places in New York." Nyla announced, crossing her arms over her chest.
"So? Nick can just drop you off on his way to where you're going. You're heading to Rochester right? Well, Nick's going to Syracuse. He can drop you off on his way there and pick you up on the way back." Howie reasoned.
"No way! Not happening." Nick replied stubbornly.
"Come on you two. Look, you can go half-and-half on gas money and you'll have someone to talk and to be with. Maybe you guys can become friends again." Kevin prodded.
"We're friends." Nyla blinked.
They all stared at them.
"What?! We are!" Nick exclaimed.
They continued to stare at them. Nyla sighed, clearing her throat. "What makes you think, I'd want to impose on Nick? I'm sure he wouldn't want me around bothering him the whole trip."
"You wouldn't bother me, you never bother me." Nick said suddenly, looking over at her.
She looked over at him briefly before looking away.
"Come on Nyla, it'd be better this way. You know I'm gonna worry bout you, I'd feel better knowing you were with Nick." Erin said, walking over to Nyla, resting a hand on her arm.
"Please Nyla." Brian pleaded.
"You're all forgetting, Nick's the one driving, and he doesn't even wanna do it."
"I'll do it."
She looked over at him again. "What?"
He hesitated a moment before starting again. "I said I'll do it, I'll take ya with me."
"Look Nick, no one's forcing you to. You don't have to ya know."
"I know I don't have to, but I want to."
She blinked; she hadn't been ready for that.
"Do this Nyla, for us. Please." AJ gave her a look.
She sighed.
"Meet me at my house tomorrow morning at eight with all your stuff." Nick announced, looking over at her.
She was quiet for a moment before looking over at him.
"I'll be there."
