Chapter 29

She couldn't focus, she couldn't concentrate. And, she couldn't stop crying either. She'd done the right thing, she knew she had, so why did she feel so lousy?

She'd forget him, he was leaving in two hours and he'd be out of her life forever, she'd go back to her normal life. Jordan grabbed another tissue and wiped at the tears streaming down her cheeks, sniffling she let her head fall forward on her desk with a thump. She was a mess.

He was all she thought about all day. Why wouldn't he just let her go? Jordan swore she could feel him everywhere, hear his voice. Everytime the phone rang she jumped, part of her hoping it was him on the other end.

It wasn't.

Tossing the soggy tissue in the garbage, she reached for another. At what point had she lost control? Since when did she sit at her desk sobbing over some guy who she didn't really like anyway? Never, that's when.

Jordan slammed her fist down on the desk, lifting her head and wiping frantically at her eyes. That was it, no more moping around and feeling sorry for herself. He was gone and her life would go on as usual.  ****
He zipped up his bags and sat down heavily on the bed. He had an hour before his flight left, but he would be leaving the hotel in five minutes and no sign of Jordan.

Howie rubbed at his forehead, part of him had actually conjured up the notion that she'd come knocking on the door telling him that she'd changed her mind and that she loved him too.

God, how could he have said that?! He said it before he could really think. Sighing heavily, it didn't matter now anyway. Standing he pulled his coat and gloves on, wrapping his scarf around his neck. He looked at the clock one last time, shaking his head he grabbed his bags hoisting them up on his shoulder and heading out the door.

She finished up the email and shut her computer down, turning to the file in front of her, she signed her name and closed the folder, standing and putting it back in her filing cabinet. Slumping back down in her chair she looked at the rest of the work that needed to be done. Really, she could finish it tomorrow. A month ago that wouldn't even have been an option. A small smiled crossed her lips and faded quickly. A lot can change in a few weeks.

That wasn't an option anymore. She'd stay late and work on the things she needed to. It was time to get back into the swing of things, when work was the most important thing in her life. She looked at the clock it was now four o' clock. Her eyes welled up as she turned, starting in on her work. From that moment on, Howie no longer existed.
