Chapter 5

He sat there, drumming his fingers on the table waiting for Jordan Fairview to arrive. All sixteen people assembled in the large conference room the next morning waiting.

There was an assortment of bagels, muffins and doughnuts on the table along with various juices and coffee's.

He was starving, reaching over; he grabbed a bran muffin and started picking it apart. He wondered to himself what Jordan Fairview would be like as he chewed haphazardly on the muffin. He turned to the man next to him, tapping him on the shoulder. "Excuse me, do you know anything about Jordan Fairview?"

The man turned to Howie and smiled.

"Nope, they're keeping all information about anyone confidential, at least that's how it seems. I've been talking to some of the others, and everyone's wondering the same thing. I'm Jack by the way, Jack Parks." He smiled, offering his hand.

He shook his hand. "Howie Dorough, nice to meet you."

Jack's eyes lit up. " Same here, wait...Howie! I know you...you're a..a...Backstage Boy! My daughter loves you guys!"

Howie chuckled. "Backstreet Boy, but that's cool."

"Oh sorry! I try to keep up with all these groups my daughter likes and it's just impossible."

"I understand." Howie smiled.

Just then the door opened and all eyes turned as a young woman strolled through the door and over to the front of the table.

Her hair pulled up into a tight bun on her head, a pair of wire rimmed glasses on her nose, and she was dressed immaculately. A red business suit, black pumps and make up. Not too much and not too little. On her face, an expression of sternness.  She placed the folders down and set her briefcase on the floor.

"Welcome to Utah everyone. Let's get started shall we. Take one and pass them down please." She started the folders around the table, each person taking one. "Inside, you'll find the itinerary for the rest of the week. As you can see, there's also information on what's going to happen in Florida, the check points and so on. What I want to do now is go over everything in your folders with you and find out if you have any questions. Please feel free to take anything on the table as far as refreshment wise."

Howie raised his eyebrows. Who was this? Where was Jordan? Maybe she was just there to get them ready and he'd come in after. He looked around as everyone shuffled through the contents of their folder. Well someone should ask. He raised his hand. She looked up from organizing her things.

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry but I was wondering, where's Jordan Fairview? Are you his secretary?"

She paused, reaching up to pull her glasses off. "I'm sorry, Mr..."

"Dorough, Howard Dorough."

"Right, Mr. Dorough. Well now, to answer your last question, no, I'm not Jordan Fairview's secretary. Sorry to disappoint you."

"Oh, well are you just filling in for him till he gets here?"

She blinked, he was gutsy. She should've expected it. What was it with guys and assuming someone named Jordan was a man? Typical guy, she had a feeling this Dorough guy was going to be trouble. Coming around the table, she walked over to where he was sitting, leaning against the table, staring down at him.  "No Mr. Dorough, I'm not filling in for HIM."

"Oh, well then..."

"I don't think you're clear on a few things." She stood, walking back around to the front of the table. "As Mr. Dorough has so nicely questioned, and as I'm all sure you're wondering, I'm not Jordan Fairview's secretary and I'm not filling in for him. I'm to be pardoned to assume you all knew who I was in the beginning.  Perhaps we should start over again so that everyone catches it."

Howie's eyes widened As the realization hit him. No, he hadn't, please someone tell him he hadn't.

"Welcome to Utah everyone..."

No...

She turned to look right at Howie. "I'm Jordan Fairview, the Vice President of Public Relations, I will be your hostess for the remainder of the week."
