Tomorrow Comes Copyright 2002 He turned over, burying his head deeper in the pillow. It was so great to be home finally, get the chance to sleep in and do nothing. Of course the fact that his parents convinced him to stay there for a few days was normal. He was rarely at his own home, but he always ended up spending half his vacation at his parent's house. Now all he needed was eight hours of peace and quiet. "Aaron! Aaron Charles Carter you wait! You forgot your coat! It's cold outside! Don't you "mom" me young man." Nick groaned, grabbing another pillow and covering his head with it. "BJJJJJJJJJJ!! Come on honey! We're going to be late!" "Dad! I don't see why I can't just drive there myself!" "I don't think so. Hurry up!" "Moooooooooooooom! Have you seen my purse? I can't find it!" Nick whimpered loudly as various doors slammed, a car started and then pulled away. "Please god, eight hours, that's all I ask." He mumbled into the pillow. "Bye mom!" Nick winced as another door slammed, another car pulling off. He turned onto his back, the pillow still over his face. He was just drifting off when there was another slam. He yanked the pillow off in frustration, breathing heavily. "Leslie...baby what's the matter?" He turned his head as a bedroom door slammed. "Honey? Come on, talk to me, tell me what happened." He heard the knocking at the door and sat up a bit. "Well...I'm here if you wanna talk sweetie." Nick listened as his mom made her way down the stairs. Sleep obviously wasn't going to happen, might as well see what was going on. Opening the door, he poked his head out and looked around. Stepping out, he started towards Leslie's door. "She won't answer, something's wrong." Nick turned to see his mom at the foot of the stairs. "She came in here in tears and ran to her room. I hope everything's ok. Maybe you can try to talk to her." "Me? What can I do?" "You helped BJ." "Mom, that was years ago." "You have that way about you though Nick. Just give it a try, you're her big brother, she looks up to you. Help her." He took a breath and turned, knocking on the door. "Les? It's me, can I come in?" A sniffle was his reply. He turned the knob and opened the door. He poked his head in and looked around. There she was, sprawled on her bed, face down her head buried in her pillows, tissues scattered around her. He made his way into the room, closing the door behind him. He walked over to the bed and sat carefully. He cleared his throat. "You got one messy room girl, almost as bad as mine." He looked over at her, still nothing. "Nothing a good cleaning couldn't fix ya know, I'd help if you wanted. I'll be here a while, you know how it goes when I'm home." Still nothing. Nick sighed. "Come on Les, I can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong. Remember how we used to talk all the time? You'd come to me when BJ would pick on ya and then I'd go yell at her? Talk to me." Slowly she pulled away from the pillows, her head still down. Nick scooted closer to her. "What happened?" "I...J-Jeff...he...he..." "He what?" "He broke up with me!" Leslie blurted out, starting to cry all over again. Nick blinked. "You have a boyfriend?" Just how long had he been gone? She cried harder, her small body shuddering with her sobs. "Ok ok, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He whispered, wrapping an arm around her, bringing her close to him. Hey, little sister Did that boy make you cry Did he steal your heart away With a look in his eyes Are you feeling like you world is over now "He...he told me he loved me...I feel so stupid!" She hiccuped, burying her face in his shirt. He swallowed hard. His little sister had a boyfriend who said he loved her and now she was crying, he'd kill him. "It'll be ok Les, you'll move on, find someone else." Was he really saying that to his sister? "B-but, I don't want anyone else! I want him!" "Don't you think you deserve better than that? You don't deserve to be with someone who'll make you cry." "There will never be anyone else, I'll never love anyone again." "Hey now, don't give up. There's someone out there for you, I'm sure of it. Don't give up on finding that special someone." Hey, little sister Everything'll be alright What you feel is gonna change All your tears will dry Time has a way of healing hearts that break somehow Don't give up on love cuz this one's let you down "But what if I don't? What if I go on without someone for the rest of my life? What if no other guy will like me?! What do I do Nick?!" Leslie cried. "You'll find someone Les I promise! I swear it! Jeff is a jerk, he doesn't deserve you." "He's the one I want though!" "Time goes on Les. Relationships come and go. You live and learn, and you'll learn from this. Don't waste your tears on him, he's not worth it." Tonight you've lost Lost the only one you want Seems all you've got All you got left is yesterday But time won't stop And when all your crying's done Tomorrow comes "I didn't even know, he didn't act any different. He kissed me like everything was ok." He kissed her too; he'd get Kevin to help kill him. "Yeah, us guys can be real stupid sometimes." "You're tellin' me." Leslie sniffled. Nick rolled his eyes. "Anyway, you gotta let go Les. You're gonna have a lot of tears in your life, use them on the guy who makes you cry for a different reason." "What?" "Love." "But I loved Jeff!" "True love Les. The kind that lasts forever. The kind of love that makes you sublimely happy, the kind that lets you know it's forever." "O-oh." "True love, won't make you cry." Hey, little sister It's the first time There's no way you could've known That a kiss is just a kiss You gotta try to let go Tears fall sometimes But crying's not what loves' about Don't give up tonight cuz this one's let you down Tonight you've lost Lost the only one you want Seems all you've got All you got left is yesterday But time won't stop And when all your crying's done Tomorrow comes "Think about this, you'll go to bed tonight and wake up tomorrow and you'll look out the window and what will you see?" "Uh...outside?" "Yeah...but what outside?" "The...sun?" "Yeah, the sun will still be shining and it'll be a new day. You get to go out there looking again, looking for the next lucky guy to date you. You've got your whole life ahead of you, go out and enjoy it." Hey, little sister You got to trust me When you open up your eyes The sun is gonna shine On a world you've never seen There's so much more to love that what you're feeling now Someday you'll find someone who never lets you down Tonight you've lost Lost the only one you want Seems all you've got All you got left is yesterday But time won't stop And when all your crying's done Tomorrow comes Leslie sniffled again, wiping at her eyes with a tissue. Nick hugged her tightly to him. "I hate to say this, but this won't be the last time it happens, it's just a part of growing up. What you're feeling is real and totally understandable. They may seem like a big thing at the time, but they're nothing compared to the big one. Nothing else matters after you find your one love. But I know you're strong, you'll go on and be fine. You gotta, you're a Carter." Hey, ya gotta wake up and face up Breaking up just a part of love So his kiss hit you hard He broke your heart, but it don't mean nothing Hey, ya gotta wake up and face up Breaking up just a part of love What you feel, yes it's real But it's gonna heal There's another day's coming Leslie smiled. "I-I think you're right, about everything." "Of course I am, I'm your big brother. I know what's best for my sister." Leslie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, like that time you told me I could cut BJ's hair and no one would notice." "I didn't say it was right, I said it was the best thing. Besides, it grew back." She laughed full out this time. "That's my girl. How do you feel?" "Better." She looked up at him and smiled. Nick looked down at her and grinned, wiping a stray tear away with his thumb. "You'd better go on down and talk to mom, she's worried bout ya." "Yeah, ok. Thanks Nick, you made me feel so much better." "It's my job as big brother to be there when dumbass boys break your heart." "Thank you. I know it's hard but...I really miss you when you're gone and I know you don't really like being here on your vacation, but I'm glad you are." She sniffled again, throwing herself into his arms, hugging him tightly. Nick blinked, startled. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. "I miss you too when I'm gone and I'm glad to be home, I swear." He kissed her temple lightly before pulling away. "Now go on and talk to ma, she'll be able to fill in the gaps I'm sure I've left." Nick muttered, scratching his head. Leslie giggled and jumped off the bed, and out the door, starting down the stairs. Nick got up and walked out, shutting the door behind him. "Leslie? You look like you're feeling better. Everything ok?" "Yeah mom..." She turned to look back at Nick. "Everything's great." She smiled and walked into the kitchen. Nick looked down at his mom and she smiled up at him, mouthing the words 'thank you' before turning to follow Leslie into the kitchen. Nick smiled and walked back into his room, lying back down on the bed, quickly drifting off. He loved being a big brother. Tonight you've lost Lost the only one you want Seems all you've got All you got left is yesterday But time won't stop And when all your crying's done Tomorrow comes Little Sister- By Youngstown |
