A FATHER’S PRAYER

Oh Lord, I pray from day to day

That he never will be led astray

By painted girls, and gambling dens

And exciting tales of fast gun men

His smile is keen, his temper hot

He tells me not to worry a lot

I can take care of myself, his eternal vow

I cannot believe it, I know not how

Was it twenty years or just one day

Since he came into our lives to stay?

My little boy is now a man

But I’ll love and protect him all I can

For when he hurts, it’s my name he calls

My hand he holds when his heart falls

Sad victim to the pains of life

With all its varied joys and strife

I gave my boy advice and wisdom

Now it’s up to him to mold his vision

Of the perfect life from day to day

Watch over him, dear Lord, I pray
