Book Critique Your overall objective is to master the major themes in Defending Slavery. This will require a full reading of the book. To secure mastery of the book students will submit a five-page critical analysis. Please follow the parameters below: Substantive 1. Select your theme from Part I and briefly provide a summary. Then select at least two primary articles from Part II, summarize them, and analyze them in relation to your selected theme in Part I. The summaries can be accomplished in two paragraphs of 4-5 sentences each. Some themes may lend themselves for better analysis so choose wisely. For example, you can choose one theme from Part One (Slavery as a historical and world phenomenon) and analyze it based on the readings on Religion and Slavery in Part II. 2. Be critical. By this I do not mean whether you like or dislike the article. You need to provide aggressive critical analysis supported by evidence from the reading(s) and thoughtful logic. Finally, there are no right or wrong responses, but you will have to defend your contentions. |
