Book Critique Parameters Your overall objective is to master the major themes in the Cuban Missile Crisis (or The Sixties.) This will require a full reading of the book(s). To secure mastery of the book students will submit a three-page critical analysis on a selected theme (five pages for the Sixties.) Your objective is simple: 1. summarize the book in one or two paragraphs; 2. Identify one or two themes you would like to criticize. For example, some students can choose to discuss the Russian, Cuban, or American perspective on the crisis. You may want to focus on a nation's right to defend itself or to enter into any defense treaty. Perhaps the role of Kennedy interests you. The important point is to identify one or two themes that you can easily discuss and demonstrate that you read the book. This is not a term paper so footnotes/endnotes or lengthy quotes are not required. Finally, please take into accout the below parameters: |

Grammar and Syntax This assignment will constitute a large portion of your final grade. Consequently, I will expect a professionally written critique. It is imperative that you follow the below guidelines: 1. Organization: Introduction, body, conclusion 2. Provide transitional lines between paragraphs to ensure continuity 3. Avoid or minimize the "passive voice" 4. Avoid or minimize "first-person singular." I know that it is you who wrote the paper! 5. Use a thesaurus and dictionary to expand your vocabulary 6.
