OBJECTIVES
This course will take a political-historical approach to the contributions of Mexican-Americans in the United States.  In particular it will specifically focus on factors that impede the full participation of Latinos into the body politic of America. (i.e. internal colonialism, the politics of race & class, etc.) This course is premised on the view that the experience of this group may be classified as a history of victimization.Consequently, to understand the politicization (or absence of) of Latinos an assessment of internal colonialism, race and class must be understood..
To evaluate the complexity of this group, we must search the past, digest its lessons, and continue to redefine their relationship to the predominant group (Anglo-Saxons).  Consequently, this course will embrace an interactive approach that will require your input discussion. This summer the class will strictly adhere to a discussion format every Monday.  Wednesdays will be reserved for video presentations in P-32
