In 1994 I wrote a lunar map program called Luna-Tac which simulates the Moon's appearance in a telescope. Luna-Tac uses a database of lunar features that I compiled by hand from photos and atlases. In addition I wrote a lunar ephemeris program (based on the theory of Jean Meeus) to allow Luna-Tac to present a correctly oriented view of the Moon for any date and time. |

Later I had the idea of translating the Luna-Tac data so it can be manipulated by programs such as Autocad (tm) and Adobe Illustrator (tm). Here is a snapshot of the Illustrator-based map. |
