A great place to stay in Havana is the Casa Particular Avenida Paseo of Magaly and Raul.
Well situated in Vedado it offers any tourist easy access to both Old Havana ( long walk or short taxi ride ) and to the tourist services and cultural amenities of Vedado itself.
Besides it's good location the apartment is home to Magaly and Raul, a pair of retired teachers who are also Revolutionaries at heart and true Cuban patriots.
These two are also very friendly people who speak English ( mainly Raul ), who know a great deal about where and when to find different things and who are always ready to help with a smile.
The apartment itself has two rooms, a small one and a large one, both offering all the necessities, a pretty balcony and e-mail service.
Apart from their own casa Magaly and Raul know many other people who have rooms for rent, legally, all over the island, and can be of great help to those who want to be set before arriving at a new town. (or do not like having to turn down 613 offers on arrival).
One of these casas is that of Mercy and Manolo in Cienfuegos. Another pair of lovely and very generous people who have two great daughters 'mis amiguitas ' , a dog and a hamster.
I was there during hurricane Michelle and can say that their house is also safe. Manolo is a great cook and also knows a lot of people and was of great help to me during a difficult period.Recommended!
