Quest # 50: What is life and its importance?

Answer: The time between birth and death is called "Life". The human race is for the purpose of Yoga** and Bhoga.

[*Bhog means to experience enjoy the fruits of his/her cumulative i.e. pleasure or pain according to Species (Jati) or Race (Life-State), (Aayu) Age (Life-Period), and (Bhog) Life-Experience.]

[**Yoga the human has the chance to communion with God and to experience His bliss, if he /she attains the state of realization].

Human life is a very precious one because one is free to act according to his/her will; the increment or decrement of the Jiva depends upon his/her actions. If nothing good is done in this life (Human life), it goes waste. One has to learn the art of living with a positive attitude. Each and every moment of life should be enjoyed with happiness and love, and one should be grateful to God for the precious human life, which He has given us.

A meaningful life is one when man leaves the world with his good deeds, he should be remembered and appreciated by others for his work. No one knows the time span of anyone's life. One should be hopeful and must learn the art of living, so that each and every moment should be lived with happiness and we must thank God for all that He has provided for our betterment. A useful life is that which remains as a fond memory in the hearts of many people for years to come, otherwise people come and go, some are worshiped like God and others are simply forgotten. Those who are worshiped have really lived their lives to the fullest.

Quest # 51: What is the difference between death and sleep?

Answer: There are many similarities between death and sleep. While sleeping, one gets relief from bodily tiredness of the entire day, and wakes up fresh and energetic. In the same way, death removes tiredness of the entire life, and the soul receives a new body. In the new body, the Jiva performs all new actions with renewed vigor and freshness. The Jiva gets a new chance to communion with the Supreme Soul by Meditation, which is available only to the human race.

The importance and necessity of death is more than that of sleep. Living beings may sleep as much as they want in their entire life, but it is death in which all have to take shelter in the end. Sleep is limited to a few hours but death is a form of permanent sleep, from which no one can ever wake up.

Sleep is a shadow of death in which the body is relaxed for a few hours, but death relaxes the body permanently. Death puts an end to all kinds of diseases, pain and misery.

Now days, many people suffering from insomnia (sleeplessness or lack of sleep) take sleeping pills or other medicines to get a good sleep, but still they are unfortunate and do not enjoy sound sleep. On the other hand it is the death which gives sound and permanent sleep to all living beings once they come in its grasp. Sleep can escape, but death never forgets to embrace and give shelter to every one.

One, who has taken birth, will have to enter the jaws of death. Life is a journey between birth and death and to get rid of this, one has to take the shelter of God.

Quest # 52: Why do we fear death?

Answer: Fear of death exists due to our own ignorance, because we have not understood the meaning of death properly. The fear will go away if we get correct information on this subject. The fear of death is increased because of love for self and fear of losing those who are near and dear to us. Death is essential, unavoidable and certain, so why to worry or get afraid of these things. Death becomes easy for those who have the right spiritual knowledge, that after death they will take birth once again according to their deeds, good or bad, in the present life. If their deeds are really good then there is no need to worry, and if their deeds are really bad, this is the right time for self-examination and improving our attitudes for the remaining part of life.

Mostly common man fears death when he sees it. On the other hand learned men, who are spiritually enlightened and have gained the knowledge of the Vedas want to conquer it by renouncing worldly pleasures and communion with God so that they are free from the vicious circle of birth & death and enjoy Emancipation without this physical body.

Quest # 53: Where do all live in the state of dissolution?

Answer: In this mantra of Rigveda there is your Quest and Answer also:

“Abhee Ye Devaha sthana Trishvaarochane Divah, Kridha Rritei Kadanrita Kwa Pratvaa Va aahutirvitam Me Asya Rodasee” (Rigveda 1-105-5)

Q--When all the worlds in this Universe vanish i.e. in the state of dissolution, where do they all stay? Where do all souls stay?

A--One should know that---the Universe dissolves in its cause and stays in space, the souls also live in God in the state of deep sleep. God sustains all worlds in the Universe under the gravitational force of their respective Suns.

Pt. Ramchand Dehlvi, the greatest wrangler, has given clarification of this Quest in these lines ---" long duration of the dissolution (i.e. 432 million years) is not the same for all souls. Because one cannot have the knowledge of time in deep sleep, so as all souls do in the long period of dissolution of the creation. Emancipated souls live in God with His knowledge and Bliss, whilst others enjoy the deep sleep without any knowledge in that period of dissolution.

As the world is created and dissolved there is a continuous chain of creation and dissolution. The Universe is in the state of dissolution for 432 million years [Rigvedadi-Bhashya-Bhoomika, (Sub: Creation of the Universe)]. God always lives in the present.

Quest # 54: What are the causes of death?

Answer: There are many-many causes of death. The main cause of death is non-obedience of God’s commandments, but there are other causes too such as accidents, sickness, unsystematic pattern of eating and drinking, polluted environment, interrupted life style and our own attitudes against the laws of nature. Old age death is a natural one, because the materialistic body becomes old and useless, so the soul has to leave the body, which results in natural death. Suicide and knowingly ending one's life is an abnormal cause of death. The three kinds of pain --- 1) that from physical disorders, hunger and thirst, etc., 2) from other living beings and 3) from natural causes such as excessive heat or cold, or excessive or deficient rain, or from the restlessness of mind and the senses---are also the causes of death. In the modern day life style, heart attack, tension etc are the common causes of death.

The soul lives in a healthy physical body, made from five gross elements e.g. earth--water--fire--air--ether. When the balance of these five elements is disturbed, the body becomes ill. Increment or decrement of any of these five elements effects the stability of health, and the soul is Eveready to leave the unbalanced or disturbed body, until it gets well. In an accident or suicide etc. water element in the body is reduced, hence death occurs. In illness /sickness one should take care and get himself treated otherwise the consequences will be nothing but death.

"Yasyachchhayamritam yasya mrityuh” The Veda says --God showers His bliss (longer and healthy life) to one who is obedient to His commandments, and in the reversed conditions i.e. he who does not obey Him, experiences extreme pain which results in death.

The great sage Manu Maharaj has described more causes of death like –

“Anabhyasen Vedanamacharasya cha varjanat  Aalasyadannadoshashcha mrityurvipranjadyasati” (Manu-Smriti 5/4)

Means: --By not studying the Vedas, acquiring bad habits and leaving good attitudes, becoming idle or wasting time and eating impure foods death will kill the noble man. The noble man cannot be killed by anyone but if there remain the above said impurities then no one can rescue him from death.

Control over sexual habits is life and discharging energy is death. Meeting virtuous people is life and relationship with bad ones is death. Knowledge is life and ignorance is death. Communion with God is life and communion with Prakriti is death.

It should be kept in mind that death comes to the body while the soul is imperishable, everlasting, Undecaying and an eternal entity.

Quest # 55: How does the soul leave the material body at the time of death?

Answer: According to the Brihadaranyak (4-5) ---At the time of death the soul exists in five great elements i.e. earth, water, fire air and ether. The soul cannot be broken or burnt like the material body but it exists in the subtle body at the time of death. When nervauric or vital forces (Pranas) leave the body, it becomes cold (Vedanta 4-2-11).

While leaving the physical body, the soul lives in the atmosphere (Yama), because it is said in the Vedas " Yama is another name for air." Thereafter the Great Judge --God --- embodies that soul according to the nature of its deeds done in the previous life. Guided by God it enters the body of some living creature with air, water, food, and drink or through any opening in the body. Under the control of God’s system it receives a new body. When-where-how etc. that depends upon the soul's past impressions of infinite lives deeds, which God decides and makes arrangements for its future “Life-State, Life-Time and Life-Experience”, because only He is just and the holiest (Yajurveda 23-3), who creates the bodies of all living beings.

The soul is continuously chained down to this wheel of birth and death till by the practice of the highest virtue and complete absorption into Divine contemplation and the acquisition of the highest knowledge, it obtains Emancipation. By the practice of deeds of the highest virtue, etc. It is born as a good and great personage among men; and being freed from births and deaths and the consequent pain and suffering, it enjoys perfect bliss in Emancipation till the end of the Grand-Dissolution.

Quest # 56: How can death be granted death?

Answer: “Brahmchryena tapasa deva mrityumupaghnata” which means: -- One who is a true yogi, a true spiritual teacher, a disciplined noble person and one who always thinks of God, only enjoys His bliss and conquers death, in other words those who follow the instructions of their spiritual masters can reach the state of death daily while living in this world, for this, one should live a renounced life

“Vaidahamaitam purusham mahantamadityavarnam tapasah parastat Tameva viditvati mrityumeti nanyah panthya vidyateAyanaya” (Yajurveda 31/18)

That is the Answer to this Quest; for which the soul receives many bodies. Death is the greatest unsolved mystery on earth. Even the scientists are trying hard to solve this problem.

Yes! It is death from which all creatures run helter-skelter to try and get rid of, for they do not want to face it and try to find some way to leave it behind them. All fear from death by just looking at it, be it a genius or a fool --a child or an old person --poor or rich --a beggar or a king ---a demon or a virtuous man --everyone finds his/her own way to conquer death. Everyone wants to be eternal and that is the purpose of human life.

“If man wants to enjoy the pleasure of all worlds, he should know the Supreme Soul, who is self-illuminated, All-blissful, away from any kinds of impurities and always lives in the present, then he shall be separated from the sea of pain. This is the only way to be free from the bondage of birth and death and there is no other way for Emancipation.”

There is no other way to conquer death other than to know God.

Quest # 57: Why does Nescience arise? What are the causes of ignorance?

Answer: "Indriyadoshaatsanskaara Doshaachchaavidyaa" Vaisheshika Darshana" (9-1-10) which means that defects of the sense organs and defect of Sanskaras are the causes of ignorance. If there is any disorder in the sense organs, the knowledge remains incomplete and defected. If there are impurities of the past impressions, the thing what is put in it, becomes impure too! So until and unless the defected sense organs are not rectified and the impure impressions purified, these ignorance will remain like darkness in man's life.

Quest # 58: How should defected impressions be corrected and dispelled?

Answer: The defected impressions of the past, which exists in man, should be burnt out. If there are no defected impressions --hence no ignorance will exist. (No defected impressions--No ignorance) Repetition of Vedic mantras, stability in virtuous duties and study of the Vedic literature; and self-examination, by these means one can get rid of all the defected and impure impressions of the past.

1) Japa or Repetition of the Vedic mantras: To recite and repeat God’s name with meaning, to acquire the attributes of the Supreme Soul, in daily life style to improve attitudes towards life. Try to repeat and practice the same.

2) Tapa or Stability in virtuous duties: If any kind of hurdles come in the repetition of God’s name and in the way of virtuous deeds, one should not give up or hesitate. He should try to be stable and have courage, make no compromises in rituals, no compromise with the truth, only to obey God’s commandments (to go by Vedic way), to acquire God’s attributes, all these combined are called "Tapa".

3) Swaadhyaya or Study: To study the Vedic literature is called "Swaadhyaya", because The Vedas are the pillars of Virtue i.e. Dharma. The great sage Maharishi Vyasa has explained the meaning of word "Swaadhyaya" in Yoga Darshana " Swaadhyaya Pranavaadipavitraanaam japah mokshaastraadhyayanam vaa” (Yoga 2/1 and 2/32). Repetition of God’s personal and only name "OM" and to study The Vedas, Darshana (philosophies of the Vedic literature) and Upanishad (how to communicate God with certainly) are called Swaadhyaya. In this way virtuous attributes are born and knowledge is increased. And when man acquires knowledge, he wants to perform actions.

Swa+Adhyaya = Swaadhyaya i.e. self + examination i.e. to examine own self at night for all that he has done during the entire day, in this way our tomorrow will be better than today by viewing our wrong attitudes and correcting them.

Human soul is the knower of right and wrong ---(Light of Truth --by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati)

Every one knows his personal good and bad habits. Self-examination is the best solution to rectify one's bad habits in order to improve ones life style.

“Vedopakarane chaiva swaadhyaye chaiva naityake,  NanurodhoAstyanadhyaye homamantreshu chaiva hi.”(Manu Smriti)

The great sage Maharishi Manu Maharaja has said, “One should not waste even a day in not studying the Vedas and self-examination plus performing Yajna. These actions are to be performed daily without fail and not be avoided under any circumstances.

(*Most people pronounce the word “Yajna” as “Yagna” which is absolutely wrong, the correct pronunciation is ‘Yajna’),“Mimeehi shlokamasye parjanyaeive tattanah, Gaya gayatramukthyam” (Rigveda 1-38-14)

Means one can change his lifestyle by Japa, Tapa and Swaadhyaya and get rid of bad habits and acquire good impressions.

Man can improve his Sanskaras by true knowledge and defects can be rectified, in this way the darkness of ignorance is removed.

Quest # 59: What is called a mistake, crime and sin?

Answer: The mind's forgetfulness is called a mistake, mind's ignorance is called a crime and mind's weakness is called a sin.

Action done because of the forgetfulness of the mind is called " mistake ", deeds done due to ignorance of the mind are called  " crime “; and " sins " are those actions that are a result of the weakness of the mind.

One should have control over his mind otherwise sinful deeds will ruin his life.

Quest # 60: Does God forgive the sins committed in ones full senses or in ignorance, or if repented?

Answer: No! If God is to forgive the sins, His law of justice would be destroyed, and all men would become most sinful. Knowing that their sins will be forgiven, they will become fearless and will be greatly encouraged to commit more sins, therefore, it is meant that God should give souls the just fruits of their deeds and not to forgive their sins.

One who has done anything in ignorance or purposely or in full senses, will have to face the consequences. The fruits will be good if his actions are good and results will be bad if the actions are bad; this is God’s justice. In God’s justice one has to receive the fruits of his deeds, it is certain in and cannot be changed or altered in any condition, whatsoever it may be.

For example: If purposely or ignorantly, someone's hand is put in fire, what will happen? Of course! Fire burns whatever is put in it so the hand will get burnt. For every action there is a reaction, science also says the same thing that "Action and reaction are equal and opposite."

Man acts and God reacts or one can understand it this way --one cannot escape the consequences of one's action even if the actions are done secretly. The fruits of all actions have to be experienced by the doer i.e. the soul.

Of course, by confession or repenting one improves him self and gets inspiration to rectify himself, but once actions are performed its fruits will have to be experienced in the form of good or bad --- pleasure or pain --- virtue or evil.

Man rectifies his mistakes only when he suffers and in the future he is more conscious about his deeds. Million years have passed but people haven't forgotten Ravana's sin / mistake and they still burn his effigy every year without fail to calm down their anger. Ravana (king of Lanka, in the Ramayana era) was a good philosopher of the four Vedas but his attributes were opposite to his knowledge, one can understand by this example that merely to study The Vedas cannot do good if one cannot improve his deeds according to the true knowledge.

God is Benevolent Supreme and just. No one can escape from the consequences of its actions either by thought, word or deed. The doer gets the fruits of his actions. That is the eternal law.

It is written in manu Smriti that by confession or repenting, sins can be forgiven and one can be free from mental impurity:

“Prayo naam tapah privatm chittam nishchaya uchyate,

Taponishchaya samyuktam prayashchitamitati smritam.” (Manu. 11-47)

Confession is when one is certain and pledged to perform all virtuous deeds hereafter.  The great sage Manu has shown the way "how to confess”: ---

“Savitrim cha japennityam pavitrani cham shaktitah,

Sarveshveva vrateshvevam prayshchatarthamadritah.” (Manusmriti 11-225)

I.e. he who wants to repent must repeat with his capability either the Gayatri Mantra or those mantras that purify the mind. This is the best way to confess and acquire all those attributes that are told in mantras to purify his senses of thought, speech and action.

While with repetition of the above said mantras, impurities of mind are washed away and the soul becomes pure and by this means sins are removed by the method of confession i.e. one has to be firm that in future he will not commit any sin again. In this way one's attributes will be changed and he will not do those sinful acts.

“Kritva papam hi santapya tasmat papat pramuchyate,

Naivam kuryat punariti nivritya puyate tu sah.” (Manu 11-30)

--Which means when a sin is committed and he has confessed and pledged in his mind, that he'll never again do those sinful things, he becomes pure.

It is to be kept in mind that even after death, one has to face the consequences of his actions so it is advisable to think before doing or saying anything and be sure that the laws of action and reaction are eternal. Man acts and God reacts.

Quest # 61: It is said that God does everything or makes us do everything, how far is it true?

Answer: If God is the doer or make us do anything, then He alone would be responsible for the consequences of those actions. Why should we suffer to reap the fruits of actions? Those who think like this are ignorant and doer of sinful acts.

Everyone must have observed at that very moment feelings of fear, shame and distrust or Quest arise in the self consciousness if the action is sinful and on the other hand feelings of fearlessness, courage, and satisfaction or felicity spring up in the mind from within, at that very moment when the act is God; these feelings are promoted not by human soul, but by the Divine Spirit.

God always warns us but because of ignorance and impressions of past lives' cumulative Sanskaras, man does bad deed. . The soul is a free agent by nature hence it is called "the doer". It is an eternal law of the nature that the consequences of all actions have to be experienced by the doer in his lifetime or in his next births to come, but he (the doer) cannot escape the fruits of his actions.

If one believes that God is the doer of everything, then that will be injustice, but God is Just. Even He cannot inspire anyone to do injustice, but He punishes those who do injustice.

If God is the doer of everything or makes us to do everything, then why to worry and feel ashamed and fearful while doing something wrong or unjust? Why to worship God at all?

No! No! God does not like or want to make His eternal children suffer because of ignorance. On the contrary He is all-blissful. One who performs glorification--prayer--communion to God gets His grace and bliss.

The main purpose of the Gayatri Mantra is to acquire pure intellect, wisdom, for which one has to do good deeds and be happy in his life. God always gives inspiration for good and warns of bad actions, but it is man who ignores His warning hence he has to face the consequences of his own actions. The soul is a free agent and God never interferes or obstructs one's actions because He is Just and Omniscient.

Quest # 62: If we are to get the fruits of our actions in this world only, then what is the necessity of God?

Answer: If some one feels that we get the fruits of our actions by itself in this world, then why GOD has not made all people equally in top positions? Someone takes birth in a rich family and some one in a poor family, why so? If one gets the fruits of his actions in systematical way by itself, then why are there so many courts in this world, in every nation, in every city? Why are people not getting proper justice of their deeds, why are they always upset, and remember God in time of difficulty. When we are in any difficult circumstances why do we remember God? Why?  The only answer is that God is Great and Just. Just think with a cool mind and you'll feel the same because we are really ignorant, that is why God gives us justice and proper environment to reap the fruits of our actions, no more no less, because He only, is just.

Sometimes we do act with our mind, verbal, and corporeal, and then sometimes we ourselves do not know actually what is it that we have done, but God is Omniscient and always lives in the present, hence He knows and does not forget anything. Suppose, if you are not getting the fruits of your deeds now, don't worry. God is always there to give you the fruits of your actions, sooner or later, you will get the rewards according to your nature of actions, because He knows better about when, where and how to give the fruits of one's actions. All souls are with limited knowledge, so we have to believe in God who is Just and All-pervading. He is the only witness of each and every of our deeds because He lives within our soul. One should be aware that God will not spare him from the fruits of whatever his acts --mental i.e. through mind, verbal i.e. through its organs of speech, and corporeal i.e. through his physical body, has to face the consequences of his actions because fruits lie in the seeds itself.

What you sow so shall you reap. Once a person has done bad or good, the results are never lost. The laws of Effect or Karma are equal for all.

Quest # 63: When-where-how does an action bear its fruit?

Answer: The Atharvaveda says in 10-10-30 --the fruits of actions are under God’s control. Our cumulative actions (Sanskaras) are registered in our Chitta* [* Mind-Intellect-Chitta-Ego these four combine is called inner-faculties or inner-consciousness or Antah-Karan] and because of these Sanskaras, God who is our Great Lord has given us this present birth. One can have visions of these cumulative actions in Samaadhi i.e. the state of realization of God, which is the last stage of Yoga.

When four conditions, [e.g. place-time-cause-object] combine, the fruit of our actions are ripe and spring out, because these fruits are hidden in its actions.

The Prakriti i.e. the matter, is dead and inert, hence it can never create the environment for the fruits of its actions. God influences the nature, and we get the results of our efforts. Where, when, how all these Quests are of no use to us, except God. The subject of karma-Phal is very deep and very difficult to understand by anyone except GOD.

Quest # 64: Is there any proof in the Vedas that the fruits of our actions are under the supervision of God?

Answer:

“Vashaamevaamritamaahurvasham Mrityupaasate, Vashedam Sarvambhavad Devaa ManushyaaAsuraaha Pitara Rrishayah”.  (Atharvaveda 10-10-26)

Which mean --- With God’s Omnipotence, all living beings receive the fruits of their actions accordingly i.e. bondage or emancipation. Mystic and spiritual masters i.e. true yogis only experience God’s potent, which is All-pervading in the Universe.

The fruits of one’s actions are under God’s control. (Yajurveda: 7-48).

Quest # 65: What are the theories of "Karma-Phal" i.e. "the fruits of actions" and what are they?

Answer: Perhaps the most accepted truth is that " as you sow so shall you reap". Once a person has performed his actions, bad or good, the results are never lost. The law of Action, Effect or Karma is equal for all. "Action and reaction are equal and opposite." Time factor is always there. It is not possible for one to get the fruits of any action at the earliest, because every seed takes its own time to ripe its fruits. We [the soul] are finite hence have limited knowledge and do not know the exact time for the result of our actions.

As stated earlier that Life-State, Life-Period and Life-Experience (Jaati-Aayu-Bhog) are the parameters of our deeds. The moment man acts [mentally, verbally or corporeal] he is fixed under the laws of Divinity i.e. God decides and makes the proper and suitable arrangements and creates environments for the fruits for its actions. When, where and how no one knows except the Benevolent Supreme God.

When four conditions, [e.g. place-time-cause-object] combined exist, the fruit of our actions are ripe and spring out, because these fruits are hidden in its actions.

We all are supplied with an important automatic instrument i.e. Chitta* (commonly known as mind) in which all impressions of our past and present lives are registered continuously. When our good deeds are more, life becomes pleasant, and when bad deeds are more than good deeds, life will be miserable.

[*Mind-Intellect-Chitta-Ego these four combined are called inner-faculties or inner-consciousness or Antah-Karan. One can have visions of these cumulative actions in Samaadhi i.e. the state of realization of God, which is the last stage of Yoga.] [*The thinking apparatus is mind; thinking, feeling, willing, memory, dreams and imaginations are various facts of the mind, and these are to be co-ordinated in respect to what we receive through our senses of cognition.]

The time of death, the soul resides in God with its subtle body in which all impressions i.e. Sanskaras remains registered, and next birth is given accordingly as Jaati-Aayu-Bhog by the divine power [GOD]. There are numerous races like man, animals, birds, insects etc. etc. God only knows the Life-State, Life-Period and Life-Experience i.e. “Jati-Aayu-Bhog” of all souls.

[* As said earlier that when an individual is born, the soul comes with a subtle body, with its supragenetic code or “Jati-Aayu-Bhog”. Only human race is a free agent and rest all races are dependent in the divine laws. Man has greater freedom of will than any other animal in the creation.]

The idea of good or evil, and of vice and virtue, is assigned to the extent one is provided with freedom to will and work.

It is again the freedom that imposes responsibility. Man alone is thus responsible for his good or bad actions. The Quest of religions, morals and ethics are applicable to him alone, and to no other species to this extent.

The average age of a man is nearly 100 years, If he lives his life according to the laws of nature, it can be increased or decreased that depends upon one's attitudes towards life. God has provided all essential things for living being e.g. vegetables, fruits, foods, herbals, etc. When good deeds exceed bad deeds it is certain that the soul will get his next birth in the human race, and result in animal races if the deeds are the reverse.

In the Universe there are infinite worlds, in which exist many nations, jungles, states, cities, villages, animals, birds, sea world, and man. It is his Sanskaras that force him to take birth in king's palace, poor man's hut, ordinary house, all depends upon his entire past. Someone is born handsome/beautiful, fair, wheatish, black, tall, short, healthy, weak, retarded, sick, etc. hence there is always one or other weakness or defect or impurity in a man because of his entire past. What is received because of one's own cumulative actions is called "Fortune", "Luck", and “Destiny". Man is the builder of his fortune. What happens to us directly or indirectly is the result of our action. We are responsible for an action and it is we who have to face the consequences. The consequences of all actions have to be experienced by the doer alone.

Quest # 65 (A): Why do we expect fruits when we sow seeds?

Answer: There is a nice biological answer. This is because fruits furnish seeds and seeds come from the fruits and fruits come from the seeds; and the chain goes on. Whether come seeds first or the fruits is a Quest that can never be answered. It is a closed circular chain, each one preceding the other. Why do we want to be rewarded when we do certain actions? The answer is simple, because the reward would encourage us to take further action. Action leads to rewards, and rewards to actions and it are expected that the chain should never come to an end.

Of course, actions are like seeds, which bear fruits. Fruits accompany thorns. The actions reveal our innermost nature. Man is known by his actions. Actions also transform one's nature. Actions thus promote and demote a man. And therefore, we are asked to be very cautious about our actions.

All of us intrinsically (on account of our infinitesimally) possess two tendencies, i.e. good and evil; you may as well call them desirable and undesirable, or helpful and unhelpful, Appreciatory and Derogatory. The theism is based on the acceptance of a fundamental principle; Whatever is God must be encouraged and whatever is evil must be resisted.

This encouragement comes through rewards, and resistance through punishments, the former gets manifested in what we call pleasure and the latter in what we call pain. Virtue and vice are other terms for good and evil.

Rewards and punishments are given by someone who is higher in rank to encourage person to treat on the right path, and be safeguarded from being distracted to a wrong one. This is known as the fruit of action. We are the doers, whereas the fruit of our action comes from above, that is from the Benevolent Supreme. We are free to act, but He is to judge our actions and accordingly decide what is best for us.

Quest # 66: What is time? How one can utilize it efficiently?

Answer: Attributes of time consists of a moment --millisecond--second --minute --hour --day --night --week --fortnight --month --half year --year --century --era --creation --dissolution --Pranta-kaal.

One gets a jerk and awakens only when someone else's life comes to an end, but still he does not realize the importance of time, which is most powerful. Each and every moment is precious and once it is gone, it never comes back. There is a saying ---"Time and tide wait for none".

{Time is the key factor. Being organized is useless if you can't meet deadlines. The whole point in making a change is to improve the way an organization functions.

Plan and control your schedules with certain smoothness. Time-management experts stress on Habit, Proper planning. Prioritizing Jobs and Effectiveness. Be prepared to set goals, reduce your load and the garbage on the table. You must always subtract and not to add to the list of things on your table. You need to allocate time according to your work.

Organize yourself: *clear your desk of everything, but the project you are currently working on. *Have a basket marked "in" which contains all the important documents, and put it at a place where it won't distract you. *Have a visual area for creative thinking. *Don't have your desk face the exit. *Don't have too many chairs in your office, it encourages people to sit down. *At times, don’t do anything, Push tour chair away from the desk, and think positive. *Always create a deadline. Remember that people cause most interruption. Rule: Be firm. *Don't let your impatience affect you. *Cut down your impulse to socialize. *Talkativeness is a time waster. Finally, remember you don't have to be a genius to be an organized top manager.

Man is here for some purpose i.e. to get Emancipation. If he is unable to achieve his goal of life, he will be sorry for in the end. No one knows the last moment of his lifetime is running so fast that no one can even see the present, and the future becomes the past with the blinking of eyes. Time cannot be stopped or caught or killed by anyone, but it is time that gulps down the life of all living beings and still man does not awake from his ignorance. He who has conquered time is called a wise person.

“Kaalo Ashvo Vahati Saptarashmihi Sahastraaksho Ajaro Bhuriretaha, Tamaa Rohanti Kavayo Vipashichatastasya Chakra Bhuvanaani Vishwaa”  (Atharva Veda 19-53-1)

Mantra says: Time is very strong, very swift, all-pervading and illuminated like the sun [in which seven rays spring out e.g. violet, indigo, blue, green, orange, yellow and red.] Intelligent people flow with the tide, which helps them to perform their duties and achieve their goal, in all conditions. In other words intelligent people who know the precious value of time do not waste their time and perform their duties well in time and hence they are successful in life.

It is advisable not to waste time, do work hard, work for others, make your and other's life useful. Time is very strong. It is better to do something for our betterment and acquire God’s eternal bliss and be free from the bondage of birth and death. He, who has understood time, has really understood the mystery of time.

[Inquisitive readers who are interested in this subject should refer Atharva Veda (chapter # 9, Sukta # 53, Mantras # 1 to 16) and  (Sukta # 54, mantras # 1 to 5).]

Each and every moment of time is precious and difficult to relive. Do enjoy each and every moment. Forget the past and do not think of the future. Always be in the present and do the best. He who understands time, time goes with him, otherwise time runs away and the viewer is left behind. Be hopeful which is the demand of the hour.

Quest # 67: When did "time" come into existence?

Answer: Time functions along with the creation of the Universe. It also functions with the existence of incidents. If there is no incident, there will be no usage of time.

When the combined state of Sattva, Rajas and Tamas is disturbed and the wheel of incidents start rotating, time is said to be in function meaning time comes into existence.

The basic cause of the Universe i.e. the Prakriti is motionless and with the influence of Divine power [GOD] it turns into Srishti by the creation of the first atom, which rotates in its epicenter---with this incident the count down of time begins. At this stage God decides the time for creation and dissolution of the Universe. The wheel of time starts rotating from here and hence time functions. This incident was the same as it was in the past.

“Rritam Cha Satyam Chaabheedhaatapasodhyayajaayata,

Tato Raatrajaayata tatah samudroArnavah”. (Rigveda 10-190-1)

“Samudraadarnavaadadhi SanwatsaroAjaayata,< is just and the holiest (Yajurveda 23-3), who creates the bodies of all living beings.

Ahoraatraani VidadhadhviWishvasya Mishato Vashee”. (Rigveda 10-190-2)

In these two above-written mantras, there are many mysterious and scientific truths, which are the subject of discovery.

There exist three eternal entities --God, Matter and an infinite number of infinitesimal souls. Apart from these three, whatever is seen or unseens are created things and it is certain that what is created will be dissolved in its cause. Time was in existence before the creation of the Universe but its function was not there.

"Time is beginning-less due to the flow of events" hence it has no existence of its own, that is why the great sage of our modern Era Swami Dayanand Saraswati [founder of Arya Samaj] has said that "time is beginning-less and endless".

Quest # 68: What is the difference between ether and space?

Answer: Very interesting Quest indeed! Mostly people cannot differentiate between ether (sky) and space. There are five gross elements e.g. earth, water, fire, air and ether. The earth is grosser than water and water is grosser than fire and so on. Ether is the subtlest element in these five gross elements. The thing that is very subtle (Sukshma) cannot be seen with these eyes. Earth, water and fire can be seen but air and ether are so subtle that they are not visible.

[Fire is also subtle but it is visualized when the minute substances burn because of heat and they illuminate. The illumination that we see is not actually fire; it is the vision or subtle element of fire. Vision is the cause of its effort, fire. Everything is visualized because of the subtle element called "vision". (Vaisheshika Darshana 2-1-3)]

There is a boundary of gross substances they acquire place to exist, in the same way ether being a gross element has its boundary. The boundary of ether exists unto where the gravitational force of the earth exists or you can say unto the length of the existence of air element.

The attribute of ether is sound. (The gross element ether is created from its subtle element sound.)

One cannot hear the sound where there is no air or beyond the limit of ether. The sound vibrates only in ether.

The area beyond ether is called "space. In space no sound vibrates because of absence of air. In this vast universe there are heavenly bodies like galaxies, suns, stars, planets, satellites etc. and all have their own gravitational force. The vacuum between the gravitational force of all these heavenly bodies is called "space."  And all these heavenly bodies stay in space.

When scientist send a rocket or a spacecraft into space for some scientific experiments. And when the spacecraft returns from space to earth's gravity, its body stars burning because of friction. At that time the scientist on the ground become sure that the spacecraft has entered in the limit of earth's gravity or in the atmosphere.

Earth, water, fire and air stay in the sky (ether) and all these five gross elements stay in the space.

Now we see from the scientific point of view, the difference between ether (sky) and space. There is a vast difference between space and ether .The attribute of space is to provide or to give place. Philosophers say that attribute of ether is "sound." And science says that sound travels from one place to another by motion waves. Hence ether is not vacuum, it is a gross element whose attribute is to create motion waves.

In the Vedic theory, which is ancient and proved to be, right say that space is all-pervading.

In the year 1929 AD British scientist professor Dirac had announced an all-pervading element i.e. which he named as "antiparticles" or "extra-ordinary electron" This element is called as "Dirac Ocean".

[The Dirac Ocean is uniformly distributed on all sides and extends into infinity in all directions. The particles constituting the ocean have negative inertial mass. If one of the particles is absent leaving a hole in the ocean, this hole represents lack of negative charge and is equivalent to a positive charge and a positive mass. The holes in the Dirac Ocean behave as ordinary particle carrying a positive electron charge and a positive mass. These are known as anti-electrons or positrons.] The theory of Professor Dirac is approved to be right in the science world. [Inquisitive readers can study the subject in this mantra ---(Rigveda 1-24-8)]

Vaisheshika Shastra believes in nine elements in which except the soul and the mind, rest other seven elements are the cause of the material world. These seven elements are ---1) earth, 2) water, 3) fire, 4) air, 5) ether, 6) dik i.e. directions and 7) time. This philosophy is called Vaisheshika because of these two extra elements dik (direction or space) and time otherwise rest five Darshana are believed only in five elements.

Ether is one of the five gross elements (earth--water--fire--air--ether) and vacuum place is called space. All five gross elements live in space.

Quest # 69: How many devtas* [deities] are there in the Universe?

Answer: [*the orthodox pundits and European scholars erroneously translate the word “Devataa” into God. Late Pandit Guru Dutt Vidyarthi, M.A, has translated the word “Devataa” according to the Nirukta (vii, 15) as follows:-- "Whatsoever or whosoever, is capable of conferring some advantage upon us, capable of illuminating thing or capable of explaining things to us, and last of all, the Light of all lights --those are the fit subjects to be called Devataa.]

Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati has written in his immortal book "Satyarth Prakash" i.e. "Light Of Truth" ---"Whatsoever or whosoever possesses useful and brilliant qualities is called a Devataa, as the earth for instance; but it is no-where said that it is God or the object of our adoration. Even in mantra (Rigveda 1-164-39) it is said that He, who is the sustainer of all the Devataa, is the adorable God, and is worthy of being sought after. They are greatly mistaken who take the word Devataa to mean God."

There are thirty-three Devataa or prominent demigods described in the Vedas. The greatest of all Devataa is God that is why He is called the greatest Devataa of all Devataa ---Mahadevaa.

"yasya Trayastrinshad Devaa Ange Sarve Samaahitaa,

Skamma Tam Bruhi Katamah Swideva Sah”. (Atharva Veda 10-7-13)

Which means: with God’s influence, these thirty-three demigods sustain the world. They are ---8-Vasu, 11-Rudra, and 12-Aaditya, 1-Indra and 1-Prajaapati.

8 Vasus ---earth, water, fire, air, ether, moon, sun, and star. They are called Vasus, because they are abode of all that lives, moves or exists.

11 Rudras ---the ten Pranas (Praana--Apaana--Vyaana--Samaana--Udaana--Naag--Kurma--Krikal--Devadutta and Dhananjaya) ---nervauric forces ---enliving the human body and the eleventh is the human spirit. These are called Rudras because when they desert the body, it becomes dead and the relations of the deceased, consequently, begin to weep.

12 Adityaas ---the twelve months of a year called Adityaas, as they cause the lapse of the term of existence of each object or being.

1 the (all-pervading) electricity is called Indra, as it is productive of great force.

1 Yajna is called Prajaapati because it benefits mankind by the purification of air, water, rain and vegetables and because it aids the development of various arts, and in it the honor is accorded to the learned and the wise.

·         “Trayaa Devaa Ekaadasha------Devaa Devairantu Maa” (Yajurveda 20/11)

·         “Yasya Trayastrishaddevaa-----Brahavido Viduhu” (Atharvaveda 10-7-27)

·         “Trayastrishddevataastreeni-----Krinavad Veeryaani” (Atharvaveda 19-27-10)

·         “Yasya Trayastinshad Devaa-----Swideva Sah” (Atharvaveda 10-7-13)

·         “Yasya Trayastinshad Devaa-----Devaa Abhiyakshaya”  (Rigveda 10-7-27)

·         “Ye Trinshati Trayasparo Devaaso Bahirraasadan”  (Rigveda 8-28-1)

·         “Ye Stha Trayashcha Trinshacch”  (Rigveda 8-30-2)

·         “Vishve Devaastraya Ekaadashah” (Rigveda 9-92-4)

·         “Girvana Trayastrinshatamaa Vahaa” (Rigveda 1-45-2)

·         “Patneevatastrishatam Treenshcha Devaan”  (Rigveda 3-6-9)

All the above said Vedic mantras say that there are 33* Devataas [*Not 330 million as Hindus believe. Because there is no any proof] by virtue of possessing useful and brilliant properties and qualities. Being Lord of all and greater than all, the Supreme Being “GOD” is called the thirty-fourth Devataa who alone is to be worshipped.

Quest # 70: What are called "Siddhis" (psychic powers) and which is the best "Siddhi" of yoga?

Answer: What is achieved or acquired is called a Siddhi. It is possible to get any material thing by hard work, but to acquire the true spiritual knowledge of soul and Super Soul; it is extremely essential for one to practice Yoga. Without practicing Yoga one cannot experience the soul and God. To receive, acquire, achieve and to get anything one should have proper knowledge of that thing, then proper action and lastly he should be present where the thing is available respectively.

The Super most entity i.e. God can be acquired* by holy knowledge, holy action and Holy Communion which is possible only by practicing Yoga.

[* Here the meaning of to acquire is to realize God’s bliss. God is not a material thing that can be acquired; it is a holy bliss, which can be experienced only by the soul with a clean mind.]

The best Siddhi in the practice of Yoga is " the realization of God’s bliss " which is possible only with a pure mind.

There are eight steps or divisions of Yoga i.e. Yama--Niyam--Aasan--Pranaayaam--Pratyaahaar--Dharnaa--Dhyaan and Samaadhi. It is said that a true Yogi acquires eight kinds of "Siddhis" (psychic powers) or "achievements", which are Arimaa--Laghimaa--Mahimaa--Praapti--Prakamya--Vashitva--Ishitva and Kamvasayitva.

It should be borne in mind that these acquisition are acquired by the mind and one should not give importance to these Siddhis but to God’s acquisition, which is the prime object (Goal) of man's life. These achievements are not considered as miracles but Yogic-Siddhis.

To achieve anything is called a "Siddhi". What is achieved in Yoga is called psychic powers or Siddhi.

Quest # 71: The best "Siddhi" of Yoga is "To experience God’s bliss", then why should one desire salvation in which too one gets a similar bliss of God.

Answer: It is worthy to achieve Emancipation because one cannot always attain the state of Samaadhi i.e. the realization of God’s bliss, in his life. There exists increment (attachments) and decrement (detachment) in man's mind, and when attachment is increased man's attitudes goes out towards nature's passions, and when detachment is increased he is attracted towards spiritual world and achieves the state of Samaadhi in which he enjoys God’s bliss. Mind is not stable, it always flickers because it is difficult to have control over it. The state of Emancipation stays for Parant-kaal, i.e. the period of creation and dissolution for 36000 times and the emancipated soul experiences uninterrupted happiness and true knowledge of God.

So readers must think what is better –Yoga for short period or the Bliss of God for a long time of Emancipation i.e. 31,10,40,00,00,00,000 years.

Quest # 72: In the state of "Moksha" i.e. "Salvation" or "Emancipation", does the soul become like God? Is it absorbed into God? How is the bliss of God experienced?

Answer: In the state of Salvation or Emancipation i.e. Moksha, the soul remains in its own personified state and keeps its own individuality and it is not absorbed into God.

The soul retains its innate powers, activities and attributes but no physical body. The soul, even when emancipated remains finite in knowledge, though pure in nature. Its attributes, powers and activity, all remain finite. It can, therefore, never be God.

“It retains its separate individuality, for should it get absorbed into the Divine Spirit, who would then enjoy the bliss of emancipation. Besides, all the hardships borne, all the efforts made and all the means employed to obtain Emancipation would become useless. Absorption of the soul into the Divine Spirit is not Emancipation but its death or annihilation. It is only the soul that obeys the Will of God, follows the highest virtue, associates with the good and the great practices and Yoga and employs all the aforesaid means, that obtains Emancipation."(Light Of Truth--IX.)

"The soul that knows the Supreme Spirit Who is All-truth, All-knowledge and All-Bliss and resides in the very interior of the soul and the principles of discernment, finds rest in the Omnipresent Great God. And thereby, being in harmony with the Infinite Omniscient Supreme Being all its (righteous) desires are gratified. In other words, whatever happiness it wishes for it obtains." (Taitreya Anandvalli: 1)

"An emancipated soul has no physical body or bodily organs but it retains its pure natural attributes and powers. By virtue of its innate powers, an emancipated soul has the principle of hearing when it wants to hear, the principle of touch when it wants to feel, the principle of sight when it wishes to see, the principle of smell when it wants to smell, the principle of thought for thinking, the principle of judgment for ascertaining truth, the principle of memory for remembering, the principle of individuality for feeling its individuality. It can possess this so-called body--composed of the principle of sensation and thought, etc., at its will. Just as when the soul is embodied, it depends upon its physical body and bodily organs to carry out its will, so does it enjoy the bliss of Emancipation through the use of its innate power." (Shatpath Brahman, Khanda, 14.)

Quest # 73: What is the nature of "innate powers of the soul" and how many kinds is it?

Answer: It is written in "Satyarth Prakash" chapter 9. : ---

"Really it is of one kind, but it may be said to consist of the following 24 varieties: --

 (1) Strength; (2) Energy; (3) Attraction; (4) Suggestion; (5) Motion; (6) Intimidation; (7) Analytic Power; (8) Skill; (9) Courage; (10) Memory; (11) Discernment; (12) Desire; (13) Love; (14) Hatred; (15) Association; (16) Dissociation; (17) Dividing power; (18) Combining power; (19) Power of sight; (20) Hearing; (21) Touch; (22) Taste; (23) Smell; and (24) Knowledge."

By help of these very powers the soul attains and enjoys happiness even in Emancipation. If the soul, when emancipated, were to be absorbed into Brahma, who would then enjoy the bliss of emancipation. Those who regard the dissolution of soul as emancipation are no Quest immersed in ignorance, because the emancipation of the soul consists in its exemption from all sin and suffering and in the enjoyment of perfect bliss in the All-pervading, All-blissful, Infinite, Omnipotent God.” [* Brahma means who is great, i.e. GOD]

Quest # 74: Is it possible that with the achievement of the power of yoga, that the soul of a yogi can leave his body at his will and enter into another person's body and thereafter come back?

Answer: It is possible for the soul to leave the body with its will, But once the soul is out, it can neither enter someone else's body, nor return to the same body at its will. The body becomes dead inert matter once the soul leaves it. No one not even a true yogi, a saint, a mystic, a sage, a spiritual teacher or a master whoever he may be, can make their soul enter into any other person's body, at their will. It is a wrong conception that a true yogi can do anything he wants. Once the soul has left the body, will remain in the atmosphere, in the laws of Divine soul (*Yama).

[*An another name of God]

The Divine laws are eternal; hence no one can change, alter or break these laws, as Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent God create them. It is cognizable proof by sight, that until now, the person once dead cannot come back to life i.e. once the soul is separated from the body it cannot come back into that dead body, once gone it can never return. The deeds never come back. The best Siddhi of Yoga is "Realisation of God" i.e. Visualization of God with spiritual eyes and enjoy His bliss.

The soul can enter the body, Only under God's instructions. To acquire the knowledge of reading the mind of another person is something, which is possible by the practice of Yoga and one assumes this power, as the soul entering into another body which is a wrong concept.

These are possibilities that with the practice of Yoga one can have many achievements but it is impossible for one soul to enter another body. To claim that this is possible is fraud, cheating, or ignorance.

Quest # 75: Can God take or put the soul of any one?

Answer: No action exists without a cause and no action is done without a doer. "An effect resupposes a cause." (Vaisheshika Darshana: 4-1-3).

There are two conscious entities, God and the soul. Prakriti is dead inert matter. The main reason of death of the body is due to the soul's separation from the body. In natural death the body decays in old age i.e. complete age. Birth and death are natural and God gives the soul, race-age-passion, according to its cumulative impressions of past lives.

GOD does not take anyone’s life without any cause. ["Where there is no cause, there can be no effect." (Vaisheshika Darshana: 4-2-2)]. There are many other causes of death, and no soul can come back to its body once left behind. Even God cannot give life to the dead, because He is Omniscient and cannot change or alter His laws once created in nature. God’s laws are eternal i.e. unchangeable --unaltered --unbreakable, which is why they are called "Ritta" meaning they are true.

Hence no dead person can become alive or no one can die without any proper reason.
