| 5.24.03./ jordyn: Hello there boys and girls! Here is an interview courtesy of PICTURES OF ANNIE, a two-piece acoustic emo band from southeastern Michigan. Enjoy! 1. For the record what is/are your name(s) and what is your position in the band? AR: Ashleigh Raczkowski, bass and backing vocals. JC: I'm Justin Curth, I sing and play guitar. 2. How did you two meet? AR: I met Justin through his cousin, Dan, who went to my high school. Before PoA, Justin and I played in a band called Shirley's Fading with some other friends one summer, it was pretty short-lived though. 4. Do you feel that being a duo is a strength or weakness in today's music scene? AR: I think of it as a strength, because it's something a little different from what anyone else is out there doing right now. And we're happy with what we're doing, it's what we want to do. So that adds to the strength. 5. Where did the name "Pictures of Annie" come from? JC: it comes from a dashboard confessional song called "this ruined puzzle." It was a misinterpreted lyric basically, and Ashleigh and I thought it sounded like a cool band name. (Interviewer's note: The lyrics of that song are "the picture's of anything.) 6.I listened to some of your songs on MP3.com and you sound very similar to Dashboard Confessional. How big of an influence has Chris Carrabba's solo work been on your band? AR: Chris has been a huge influence on PoA, definetly. JC: I discovered Dashboard in January 2002 and he quickly became my favorite artist. From there I became intriged with many other emo bands as well. 7.Name something that your fans might not know about you. AR: I have almost every episode of 'The X Files' on tape...yes. I do. JC: Big John Stamos fan. Who isn't though? (Interviewer's note: John Stamos, ie. Uncle Jesse from Full House, is pretty hot). 8. What plans does "Pictures of Annie" have for the near future? AR: Right now our main goal is to finally put out our cd, 'Gather Up the Pieces' that we've been working on for awhile now. It was all recorded in Justin's basement, on his computer. It's been really hard though with school and doing it all on your own, but we're both really excited about finally putting it out. JC: We want to play as many shows as possible this summer and hopefully build a larger fan base in our area. 9. What is the most embarrasing cd that you own? AR: Hmm...which is worse: the Titanic soundtrack or Spice World? (Interviewer's note: I so own both of those cds...and I bet you do too.) JC: Ace of Base - The Sign...doesn't everybody have that though? AR: I have it, but I'm a bigger loser because I have it on cassette, yours at least is on cd. 10.Ok, now it is time for some word association. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear: emo: AR: The Get Up Kids JC: emotional screamo: AR: Thursday's 'Jet Black New Year' JC: Thursday pirates: AR: Blink 182's 'Take Off Your Pants and Jacket' bonus tracks JC: arrrrrrr! cliche: AR: The Get Up Kids - Forgive and Forget JC: pop music Las Vegas: AR: Real World JC: casino Elliot Smith: AR: Am I supposed to know who that is? JC: huh? (Interviewer's note: Elliot Smith is one of the most emo guys out there...don't listen to his music unless you want to shoot yourself...) |
