6.19.03/kat: heres a short but sweet interview with dan from YESTERDAYS*NEWS,  melodic emo/rock from clawson, MI.
Kat: Alright, so names and what you all play?
Dan: Ben Sturley - Bass. Eric "Spartacus" Kursman - drums. Jeff "Tex" Timmington - Lead Vocals. Dan Krebiehl - Guitar/Vocals.

Kat: So how did you guys get your name?
Dan: I made a list of possible band names, and that one just stood out from the others.

Kat: how did starting a band come into the picture for you guys?
Dan: This band actually started as my solo project, in November 2002. I got lonely, and came to the sad realization that you cant rock out very well if you're on acoustic guitar, by yourself. Otherwise it would've stayed that way. Ben was in another band, but he introduced me to Eric, who is amazing. Ben decided to stick, and i've known jeff for a year, so he felt okay with hopping in.

Kat: haha.. so how would you guys describe your sound?
Dan: good, clean, and all out rock. its emo/rock.
Kat: hmm interesting... like brandnew type stuff?
Dan: no, more like, Get Up Kids meets Finch........... meets relient k.
Kat: cool... does that mean you guys are christian rock though?
Dan: no ma'am. we just believe in good clean fun. our theory, is that if you cant sit down and play your songs acoustic for your grandma, then dont write them. no religion really involved.

Kat: haha, thats a pretty good philosophy. So who in the band writes your songs?
Dan: I wrote all of the lyrics. Ben and I write the music. I wrote 6 out of 7 songs on the new EP. its kind of bad, because you only hear one view point. But our new stuff is going to rock.

Kat: What are the songs usually about?
Dan:ha. the majority, could be considered to be about girls. "this beach fades" is about my best friend moving away. and we have our goofy ones - "canyouhearmenow?" is our soundcheck song. "3 times a day" - is about cereal. "girls have cooties" - is a child's view at the opposite sex, i suppose.

Kat: cereal.. hahaha. awesome. so what CD's are you currently into?
Dan: The Prize Fight, Taking Back Sunday, Rufio, Feeling Left Out, The Starting Line, Forever Ending/Short of 1st split.

Kat: nice. has anything exciting happened at any of your shows? like... you know, plastic babies, fire, etc.
Dan: May 17th in Grosse Pointe Park, MI, ben broke two bass strings, on two different basses, in a row. lol. he's the hulk.
Kat: wow. haha...
Dan: not a whole lot of unusual stuff happens though. we've played some big ones put on by cities. one by the birmingham community house, where we played to a show that had about 800+ kids at one point.
Kat: thats awesome man. way to get your name known out there.
