Heinrich Tschurtschenthaler
von Helmheim
At war's start, FML Heinrich Tschurtschenthaler von Helmheim commanded the 44. Landwehr Infantry Division.  This he commanded until March 1915, when he was succeeded by GM Ludwig Goiginger. Then in December 1914, Tschurtschenthaler was given command of the newly formed XVIII. Corps.  He led this force (and his division) until March 1915, when he was replaced by FML Emil Ritter von Ziegler. After this, Tschurtschenthaler was sent to the Tirol to prepare the Landesverteidigung or Land Defense network as the threat of war between Italy and Austria loomed ever closer. He was promoted to full general on 4 May 1915.  When war was declared by Italy, command of Landesverteidigung transferred to GdI Viktor von Dankl and Tschurtschenthaler was given a pension.
