Seeing the movie Star Wars as a child had the biggest impact on the development of my imagination. I saw things in that movie that I had only dreamed about and I wished I could be a part of the out-of-this-world action. The serious tone of the film brought credibility to the far-out epic adventure. The music and special effects had a lot to do with the realism of the concept, but most of all I fell in love with the wonderful characters. Darth Vader was my favorite. His voice alone reeked of utter intimidation. Over the years, I have revisited Lucas’ first three installments of the Star Wars Episodes and I must say that my all time favorite episode is Empire Strikes Back. Its shock-value did not sacrifice one stitch of the story for the greater glory of special effects. One interesting tid-bit is that I saw a movie called Count of Monte Cristo, which was made for TV, starring Richard Chamberlain. I noticed a shocking similarity. There is a scene in the movie in which the main character is digging himself out of jail with another older gentleman. In that scene there is no mistaking that there is a striking similarity to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ghostly return in Empire Strikes Back. You have to see the Count of Monte Cristo yourself. |
