top 20 countdown
#20: Full
Throttle
Yes, it deserves this place, good graphics, a new interface,
and cool story – a true classic.
#19: Pepper's
Adventures in Time
WHAT? THIS game? I don’t think it deserves to be in the top
20 in the first place. If it has to be an educational game, why not Eco Quest
2? It was much more fun to me.
#18: Monkey
Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Yes, a good game, though the slightly illogical puzzles it still is a true
classic.
#17: Beneath a Steel Sky
Haven’t played this one, but I’m sure it deserves this
place.
#16: Quest
for Glory I: So You Want to Be a Hero?
I don’t think this is the best QFG game, but it still is
very good, with new ideas, combats etc. The remake was better than the
original, so I suppose that this game should be at this place.
#15: The
Pandora Directive
I haven’t even heard of this one. That is why I think it
should not be in the top 20.
#14: Maniac
Mansion
The first SCUMM game. I do not have much more to say.
#13: Space
Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers
Great game, great voice acting, great plot – that’s Space
Quest IV
#12: The
Last Express
Haven’t played it, but I will try to find this game – it looks
very promising.
#11: The
Longest Journey
I do not place this game in the top 20 because… It is too
new. Only time will show if this game deserves its’ place.
#10: King's
Quest I: Quest for the Crown
I cannot comment this one really. It was made in times when if
you told someone that there will be a game with a character walking around the
screen, he would probably say “Yeah, sure there will be!”
#9: The
Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes
A good game, but I rank it a little lower, maybe at #12 or #13.
#8: Sam
& Max Hit the Road
This is one of my favorites. Great humor, great and funny
plot, awesome graphics, and those games-in-the-game. Great one, that is for
sure.
#7: Grim
Fandango
Somehow, I dislike this game, because of the crappy
interface. It has really bugged me out. Though, the plot was great, but the
graphics were in 3D*sigh*.
#6: Indiana
Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
A true classic – one of the best games ever. I actually
played this game three times over and every time I played it, I discovered new
locations, new puzzles etc. There is a game for all kinds of persons – witted ones,
muscled ones, and a way of finishing the game in the middle of these two.
#5: Gabriel
Knight: Sins of the Fathers
I adore this game because of the awesome sound – the music
was great. The graphics were also good, and the atmosphere too. This game
deserves to be at this place.
#4: Broken
Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
Great one. Nothing more to say, really.
#3: King's
Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow
A true classic. The first time I saw the intro, my mouth
opened wide, and in a few minutes all I could say was “Wow!” It is one of the best
King’s quest games, if not the best.
#2: The
Secret of Monkey Island
I do not think this game should be in the top 10. The
argument with the interface doesn’t work, because the game’s second release
made all of these enchantments on the SCUMM interface. The plot is idiotic,
which I don not like, and the characters weren’t of such great variety as in
other games.
#1: Day of
the Tentacle
Numero uno. If it wasn’t for the non-serious plot, it would have been the best game ever.
And may I ask WHERE in the top 20 are games like Leisure suit Larry, Kyrandia and The Dig. I think they are much better than “The longest journey”, “Pepper’s adventure in time” and “The Pandora detective”. I leave the judgment to you.
