Gyo's Life

[Ryslen Weyr]

How it all started.

Gyo's mother is called Tura, and is Earth's equivalent to mother nature. Her father Weo, is weather. But they weren't exactly mother nature or the weather they were human looking in fact, just that they have the ability to control their...force. And both lived on a planet called Kumos, which existed in the Nexus.
Gyo's older sister, was Gaul, also known as Autumn, or Fall. Gaul was tall and slender, lithe as a willow, yet as seductive as a nymph. Her chestnut brown hair held streaks of yellow, red and orange, while her dark green eyes laughed. She was the oldest of the bunch; expressive, emotional, and wise in the ways a woman was wise, far beyond her years.
Rum, was a sweet little boy with fair blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He was slightly chubby, with rosy cheeks. He was an equivalent to summer. Where ever he walked, the grass would grow, and the temperature would rise. He was loud, cheerful, and full of mischief. He was always running around, creating small rivers, or changing the scenery.
Boum was small, a pale kid with a frail body, the pinkest of cheeks and hair which was a pale yellow color, and as soft as the fleece on a young lamb. His eyes were a pale green color, so pale, yet so full of life. He was spring after all. Shy and hesitant, yet where ever he went, the first buds of life would appear on a tree, or a young lamb would walk its first steps.
16 years ago, when Gyo was born, the day had started out sunny and mild, yet the breeze blew, and the temperature was cool. Then, the temperature had dropped, and the wind grew stronger. The trees lost their leaves, and the first drops of snow started to fall. The sky darkened, until it was night at noon. Or it seemed to be. Gaul had been the first to notice the change in the weather, and had vainly tried to keep the remaining leaves. Her touch had turned them orange, yet they quickly grew brittle and fell. Rum tried next, tried to warm up the ground, tried to get grass to grow. The snow lessened slightly for awhile, but grew stronger. Boum tried, he tried to create buds on the dead trees, tried to get the sun to peek through the clouds. But it was no use. The three siblings knew, that their new sibling was Winter. And that she was the strongest.
Gyo was 16 now, yet she seemed older. Much, much older. Their kind never died, yet they aged. Only slowly. But she held that wise aura, maybe it came from being winter, or maybe it was just her.
She was 5”5, with pale skin, not creamy, not ashen, more like ice and snow. Her eyes were a pale ice blue color large, yet slanted at the corners. She had a oval shaped face, with arched dark eyebrows, a straight nose, and a small mouth. Her mouth was pink, but it was blue. Nor was it colorless. They were full, and just a shade darker then her skin, with a slight tinge of pink. Her hair was black, a couple of inches below her shoulders. Her hair was straight, and full, yet they moved with the slightest trace of wind, like the trees did.
When she was born, it had been winter. And winter had stayed for 5 years. 5 long years, until she had learnt to control her powers. Spring and summer desperately came to the Earth’s rescue, and to the animals as well. 5 years of winter was a long time. Even for the people of Kumos. From then on, winter came and went, but never as strong, never as cold as it had on her birthday. Until she turned 16… and she had learnt the curse of mood swings.

Gyo was quiet. She had even been called unfriendly, and mean. She knew how to share, and did that well. She rarely got angry, but was known to bring down the temperature ever so slightly, every time she got ‘annoyed’. She was frank and honest, yet held her tongue. She never yelled, never threw tantrums, yet made sure everyone knew when she was displeased.
But this didn’t mean she was cold. She smiled, she laughed, and she made jokes like any normal person. She was normal, and when she traveled, no one knew of her true nature. They just thought of her as slightly withdrawn and pale. But then, weren’t most girls her age?
And Gyo traveled a lot. She visited many places in the Nexus, and many places out of it. Pern, Alskyr, Earth, The Vella Crean, those were just some of the few places she visited. And no one thought her odd. After all, people odder then her walked the planets, didn’t they?

The rendezvous meeting.

Gyo followed her instincts down the path towards the Feeding Grounds, her spirits low. She had decided to drop by at the Vella Crean, to see if anything would amuse her. But her weeks visit had passed by without a single moment to remember.
Looking up, she watched the dragons land, and frowned. What was so amazing, that so many riders were arriving at the VC? Shrugging, she looked around and spotted a rider who had just dropped off the back of a gray dragon. Making her way forward, her voice friendly, she asked.
“What’s the excitement? Why are so many people arriving at the VC?”

The man looked up, startled, as he removed his helmet. As he shook his glossy black hair, which was longer then most men wore it these days, he grinned. He slowly took of his goggles, revealing admiring dark green eyes, and his lips curled.
“If I answer, do I get anything in return?” His voice was playful, and Gyo could resist a smile.

“What do you want?” She was intrigued by this man.

“Your name?” His eyes twinkled, as he looked into hers.

Gyo’s lips curled into a smile, as she met his eyes. He looked away first. “Its Gyo. Now will you tell me?”

“Gyo…” He murmured, and nodded, his smile never falling from his face. “Nothing special is happening. Well, there’s been many flights, so many search riders have come in search for candidates.”

Gyo felt disappointed, then saw something in his eyes that she liked. Oh well had to head home anyway. “Are you busy?” She asked, kind of hoping that the answer was no.

He grinned. “No, why?”

Gyo felt a sense of relief, as she asked. “I need to be heading home now, and I was wondering, if you’d be able to drop me off? I live in the Nexus, Kumos.”

He frowned, thinking, and nodded. “I’ve been there, so sure.”

Gyo smiled, and walked over to the gray, who was waiting patiently. She saw that he was large, one of the largest dragons she’d seen, and was helped onto the back. As she held on to the man, she inhaled, and marveled at the smell of leather, him, and that tiny bit of sandalwood.
Their journey was short and quick, as they arrived at the landing station of Kumos. She was disappointed at the short ride, and had to pull her arms off the man’s back. As she jumped off, she looked up into the man’s eyes, and thanked him.

He nodded, as his hand lingered in hers. As she was about to go, he leaned down, and whispered. “My name’s Kyu by the way, and this is Tamo.”

But by the time Gyo looked up, they were gone.

Their second meeting; Love?

For the nest week, Gyo couldn’t get Kyu out of her mind. She moved around in a dreamy haze, which got her parents worried, her brothers worried, and her sister smiling in her secret way. Not able to resist, she went for another visit to the Vella Crean, hoping for another glimpse of him.
She stayed for a week, but found no sign of Kyu. The 7th day, as she was about to leave, she felt a hand rest on her back, and a voice mutter.

“I was looking for you.”

Gyo looked up, and stared into the dark green eyes, and felt her breath catch. He was still in his riding gear, as he her to a small corner of the Feeding Grounds. She watched the way he walked, and the frown on his face, and wondered what was bothering him so much.

“Listen Gyo, I don’t know what it is, but for the past week, I couldn’t get you out of my mind. I’ve been dreaming, thinking, and seeing you all over the place. I’ve never felt this way about another person. I know that I’m probably 10 years older then you… -I’m 26- but I just can’t get you out of my mind, and I was wondering, if you’d like to have dinner with me sometime?”

Gyo listened as he explained everything in one breath, and almost didn’t catch the last sentence. She looked up at him, and felt her breath catch again. At the silence, Kyu frowned.

“Is that a no?”

Gyo stared up, and started to smile. “Of course it isn’t. I’ve been feeling that way about you as well, and I’d love to be dinner with you.”

A quick summary.

For the next year, Gyo and Kyu met often. She grew to love him, and him her. Their age difference didn’t seem to matter. Tamo turned out to be a male gray, with a large ego, and a bigger heart. It turned out that Kyu didn’t have any parents, nor any brothers or sisters, so Gyo brought him over and introduced him to hers.
Her family accepted him, and they all could see that he was good for her, and good to her. They had never seen Gyo smile so much, or laugh. It almost seemed a pity to remind her that winter was approaching.
Kyu learnt of her families talents, but accepted it, and didn’t seem to think it odd. He accepted everything about her, and seemed to love her as she was. And she loved him too. But no one spoke of marriage. Both knew that Gyo was only 17, and that she was too young to be pressured into things like that. But Kyu had done some thinking, and he had decided to propose to her on her 20th birthday.
Kyu worked as a rider, and he faced many difficult tasks. But he handled them well, and it didn’t seem to bother their lives too much….

The cold hearted fate, the winter that approached with death. .

It was the day of Gyo’s birthday. Kyu had picked out a ring, a single pink gold band, with white stones set in it, and their names engraved. He had the identical one, but a thicker band, and white gold, with pink stones set in it. He was heading for Kumos, where he would meet Gyo and her family. Her family knew of his plans, and heartily encouraged him. He chuckled as he headed towards Tamo, thinking of Gyo’s reaction. He knew that she’d accept, but he wondered what she’d say.
He saw Tamo rear, and stilled, frowning. What was the warning for? As he turned around, he saw the outline of a face, before darkness overcame him.

Gyo waited impatiently back at Kumos, as she paced in her white dress. It was silk, floor length, with a rounded neck line, and flowing sleeves. Pale blue snow flakes had been embroidered, it was her mother’s birthday present, and she was wearing it to surprise Kyu. But where was he?
GYO! Hurry! Kyu’s been… been….

Gyo stilled, as she rushed outside, to see a angry Tamos roaring. As she approached him, he looked down at her with red eyes, and snorted. Pulling on her self control, she called out to him, and his fury lessened.
“What’s wrong Tamos? Where’s Kyu?”

He looked up, and send flashes of images, accompanied by words. Gyo stilled, and literally felt her heart break into two. Shivering, her eyes going white, she shook her head, trying to deny, yet seeing the images plain in her mind.
And Tamos had broadcasted the messages to everyone, so that Autumn, Summer, and Spring stilled in their tracks, and shivered as they felt a breeze pick up. They stilled, and swore. They had felt the same way when Gyo had been born… when Gyo had changed the weather, and it had been winter for 5 years…. They just hoped… that it wasn’t the same thing.

“Take me to Kyu, Tamos.” Her voice was cool and distant, her eyes hard and glazed as she approached the gray dragon. He stilled, then nodded, as if accepting. She jumped onto his back, and they flew. Flew to the place Kyu had been killed.

“Mom? What’s happening?” Gaul asked her mother fearfully. She had her husband, Wao had arrived after feeling the breeze. Her mother looked down with sadness in her eyes.

“It seems that Kyu has been murdered. A young man whose dragon had died under Kyu’s care has been hell bent in revenged, and killed him. Kyu didn’t suffer, it was a direct blow to the heart. Yet Tamos felt the blow, and he killed the young man in his spot. He arrived now to tell Gyo. You know how close they’ve all become.” The mother shivered.
“Gaul, we’re in trouble now. Kyu was Gyo’s soul mate. I felt it in the air. And now, he’s dead. She’s going to mourn him Gaul, and you know what happened when she was born? You, Boum, and Rum couldn’t stop winter. But maybe… now that you’re all grown up, maybe you’ll be able to this time. Try your best dear hearts, and Wao and I will help in any way we can…”

Hell bent in Revenge. .

Tamos never died. He couldn’t. The minute Gyo had ridden him to see Kyu’s body, he had felt the tug Gyo had pulled, and knew that he couldn’t die and leave her. For Kyu’s sake, if not for hers. He knew what she could do, and he had to help.
Winter had come, and oh, it scared the hell out of him. The minute Gyo had seen Kyu’s body, she had wailed in grief. And all around her, instantly the ground froze, and the temperature just staggered downwards. And snow began to fall… it fell hard and loud, as Gyo picked up Kyu’s body, and held him. Then, as if conjured, a wind had come, a strong wind, which picked him up and took him. He know knew it had been her father, Wao helping. He had taken the body to Dio, Death; to be taken care of.
They had arrived back at Kumos, where life seemed dead. The snow had fallen, and was still falling. Gaul, Boum and Rum tried to fight her together. But the most they could do was keep the snow from burying them completely. She wasn’t this strong, they all knew it. But they also knew, that grief strengthened their power… and grief for a soul mate, could do so much more…
So now it snowed, hailed, and all life was dead. Gaul, Boum and Rum were tiring quickly, their own resources running low. But Gyo’s grief just continued. She sat in her room, silent, yet anyone could see the storm play in her eyes. Tamo was well taken care of, and he spoke to Gyo often. He didn’t know if it helped, but he talked about his life with Kyu, and he knew that somewhere, Gyo was listening. He just hoped it helped.
Days, weeks, months, and even years went by, yet winter never ceased. Their mother knew it had to stop, or the whole of Kumos would die of starvation. So she did something she swore never to do… she contacted her sister Dio.

Back from the Dead. .

Gyo sat in her room, staring, and felt her grief grow. She didn’t try to stop it, and it just grew with in her. She didn’t know what day it was, what time, what year. She just knew the pain she felt in her heart, mind, and soul. Then, she felt something warm on her back, and heard a voice murmur.

“I’ve been looking for you.”

Her heart paused, and she looked behind her, to see Kyu standing there. Her mouth opened, and the suddenly, tears flew down her face, so hot and heavy, she felt as if she would rip into two. She flung herself at Kyu, and he held her, as her murmured softly, stroking her hair. This continued for about half the day. So much grief had piled into her, and now finally, it was being released. At the site of her beloved, it was being released into the world once more.

“Shhh baby, don’t worry… I’m alright…”

“How did you, what are you?” She managed to choke out.

He smiled sadly. “I’m a ghost. Your mother visited her sister, Death, and pleaded on her behalf. She was willing to help. After all, the underworld was getting too full. Too many people were dying because of this long winter. But she couldn’t get my soul and put me back into my body. Mine had long rotted away. So now, you can see me, everyone can see me, but I’m dead. I can’t eat, sleep, or cry I guess. But I’m here… I’ve missed you so much.”

Gyo sniffed, her tears drying, as she ran her hands over Kyu’s face, and started to kiss him. Stopping suddenly, she looked up, surprised. “Oh dear…” she muttered.
She called Tamos, who stuck his head into the room, and when spotting Kyu, started to yelp for joy. He had to repeat his story about him being dead, but both beings didn’t care. Their favorite person was alive once more.
As Gyo watched the rider and dragon, she felt her self smile. She suddenly paused, and shoved Tamos out of the way, as she crawled out her window. But Tamos didn’t mind. He was still too shaken up about Kyu. As she looked around, she frowned. The snow was still falling, but it had lessened. Her parents were running out of their windows –the door was buried underneath all the snow- and so were her brothers and sisters. Gyo watched them run out, and smiled hesitantly. They smiled back. Gyo felt relief flood her, knowing that they weren’t mad at her. She pulled down the snow, until it wrapped itself around her, disappearing. She pulled on the cold, and absorbed it. Her brothers and sister got back into work, creating a season, unlike any other. Green grass, breezy wind, and orange leaves. It was all there. Smiling, satisfied, Gyo walked back into her room, and fell back into Kyu’s arms.

“Gyo, I’ve got something to give you.” His voice was husky, as he reached into his pocket, bringing out a small ring. “I was going to ask you before… its been… 5 years, but I still know this is what I want to do. Gyo, will you marry me?”

Gyo stared at the ring, and felt questions fly through her head. She looked up, nodding furiously. “Yes, of course yes!” She cried.

A quick Summary.

The wedding had been brief, a quick ceremony under the stars. And especially for it, her family had created the perfect weather. It had been cool and balmy, the stars glittering in the black sky. Not a cloud was in sight. It was night, yet bright enough to see without torches. The grass was soft and green, the trees tall, with red, orange, and yellow leaves. It was a wedding to remember. Everyone gathered to celebrate. Celebrate Winter’s wedding, and to celebrate the end of the long winter.
They managed well, yet some things were different. Kyu was dead, so he did not eat, sleep, nor did he grow old. It seemed that he was time itself. Never growing, yet moving. Gyo grew older, and so did Tamos. But they never grew to be white with age.
It was many years later, 200 to be precise. Gyo and Kyu emerged finally from their honey moon phase, and seemed to accept the fact that they were alive. Tamos had changed, growing larger, yet he never aged. Kyu looked like the young man of 26 turns he had been 205 years ago. And he was. Only… dead.
It seemed that Gyo had been the only one to change. She was 225 years old, yet looked and acted like a 25-year-old woman in her prime. She was 5”8, with pale ice like skin, and a slender body. But she had grown curves where a woman should have curves, and didn’t look like a 16 year old. Her face had softened slightly. With love or age, no one knows. Her eyes were large and luminous on her face. If ice blue eyes could ever be luminous. Her hair was a couple of inches above her waist, and hung straight and true, as black as it had been 200 years ago, and many more before that.
But that was all that had changed about her. Kyu and Gyo were still the same, love struck couple, Tamos still a large, loving dragon. –Although it seems his ego had shrunk in size- and they were still one, big, happy family.

A visit and an unexpected encounter rolled into one. .

“Kyu darling, why don’t we go on a little vacation? We’ve been cooped up in Kumos for so long, why, it’s been over 200 years since we’ve gone planet hopping! Things must have changed.”

Kyu looked up at Gyo, who was staring down at him with large eyes, and hid a chuckle. He should have known she’d get bored. “Where to suggest?”

Tamos reared his head from the side of the hill, his eyes full of excitement. “ I know, I know! There’s this place I heard of… what was it again…. Ryslen Weyr I think. We’ve been there before, remember Kyu? I want to see if it’s been built yet? Remember? When we went, there had only been word that a Weyr called Ryslen would be built!

Kyu frowned, thinking. “Yes, I do. I believe it would have been around for quite a while then… hmm… yes, let us go for a visit, shall we? I’d like to see how that place has turned out.”

Gyo grinned happily, glad that they would be going on a trip. The journey was a quick and pleasant one, as they landed in a cool Weyr bowl. The weather was nice and chilly, yet not so cold that people were dressed in mitts. But so many people, and such a… variety of them! Unicorns, elves, dragons, Gyo looked around, and almost squealed in delight. As she got off the back of Tamos, she looked around happily. Kyu joined her quickly, and they both gazed with awe around them.
Looking around, she realized that this place… Ryslen, was really full. And that it couldn’t always be this full… could it? Looking around, she watched as a blue rider landed, and approached him from behind, and tapped his shoulder.

“Excuse me… is something going on? Or is Ryslen usually this full?” Her tone of voice was frank and curious, as she looked around. Kyu came to stand behind her, and whispered into her ear that Tamos had got to get something to eat.

As the man turned around, he removed his helmet and goggles, and looked down at them. Gyo stared back up, undaunted by the man’s gaze. He frowned, and answered her in a hurried voice.
“There’s been a huge flight with many dragons participating in it, all these are candidates, and I’m searching for more.” His tone was low, and he seemed to dislike those facts. “Now excuse me…” He said, as he tried to push away from her.

Gyo’s curiosity was grabbed, and she blocked his path. “What do you mean, huge flight? And why so many candidates? How many eggs have been laid?”

Kyu almost laughed at the irritated look on the man’s face, but stood closer behind Gyo. He sighed, and started to explain about dragons, and that the clutch contained over 40 eggs. They both listened avidly, amazed at how much had actually changed over the course of 200 years.
“And this all happened so soon? So much has changed in 200 years… what else has changed?”

The man looked up, clearly annoyed. After hearing Kyu speak though, he looked puzzled, and more annoyed. “If you’ll excuse me…” He muttered, and walked off.

Gyo watched him walk off, and frowned. She was starting to feel annoyed herself. “How rude…” she muttered.

“Don’t worry, he’s always been cranky, but more these days. He seems to think that no ones normal now, and doesn’t like it.” The voice chuckled. “He’s so used to the ways things were before, that he doesn’t seem to want to accept that times have changed…”

Gyo turned, holding onto Kyu, and watched warily as a woman approached them. “So basically, he likes mere mortals, and the way… what was that planet called again Kyu? Ah, Pern. But so much has changed in 200 years, I don’t blame him.”

The woman arched an eyebrow. “200? What do you mean by that?” She grinned. “Forgive me, I’m not usually this forgetful. My names Hayan. I’m one of the riders for the Flurry clutch. That is… my dragon is a mother. So do come with me, and lets chat over something hot to drink, shall we?” She grinned. “And maybe I’ll explain what had changed, and what this Flurry is all about.”

Kyu grinned. “Deal”

Catching their interests, their second encounter. .

After the couple listened to Hayan, they talked about their own lives. And she listened well, injecting a comment or two, but mainly staying quiet. As they ended, they watched Hayan grin at them, then chuckle.
“No wonder J’lenn reacted that way… he’s never had a soft spot for –as you put it- mere mortals. Buts he’s really cranky these days, because of the Flurry. Never liked it you see…”
Her chuckle turned into a laugh, as she thought about the candidates that had arrived so far. Looking up with amused eyes at the couple, she tilted her head, examining them.
“I’ve got to be going now, need to check on Lanayth. But why don’t you two hang around for a bit? This place has a lot of good points.”

Kyu and Gyo nodded at the departing woman, and looked at each other. This place was more interesting then they had thought. Their eyes both alive, they looked at each other, and Gyo suddenly thought of Tamos. Where was he anyway?
“Kyu? Where’s Tamos?” She asked, her voice curious, and at the same time, worried.

Kyu chuckled. “He’s out at the Feeding Grounds, socializing with the other dragons. You’ve got to remember, its been over 200 years since he’s seen another dragon.”

Gyo laughed. “Ah yes. He does need this ego boosted, doesn’t he?” She looked around the room with interest, and sighed happily. “This place is nice, isn’t it?” Looking up at Kyu, she leaned back against him, and watched the other people with interest. Now who was human, and who wasn’t? As she scanned the room, she spotted a familiar head, leaned forward with interest. Is was that man… what was his name again? Ah yes… J’lenn. She looked up at Kyu, grinning with a mischievous smile on her face. “Kyu, would you mind terribly if we…?”

As let the question trail off, and gazed at J’lenn’s direction. Kyu looked, and bit back a laugh. Looking down at Gyo, he chuckled, and tried to look stern. “Don’t bait him too much, okay Gyo? I know its stupid to try and stop you… -I myself want to watch anyway- but don’t get nasty, okay?”

Gyo smiled with delight, and nodded, before jumping forwards. Walking towards J’lenn, she stood next to him, and asked cheerfully. “Tell me mister, do you always leave strangers alone in the middle of a Weyr bowl without saying good-bye? Or am I an exception?”

J’lenn literally choked in his drink, and looked up startled at Gyo. He frowned, and asked in a gruff manner. “I am your elder by so many more years. Don’t speak to me in that manner!”

Gyo grinned delighted that he had taken bait. Sliding into the seat next to him, she looked up at him, her eyes amused. “You can only be about 40, while I’m over 200. Which means I’m older then you by much more then a century so shouldn’t it be me saying that?”

He sputtered slightly, but kept his cool. He gazed up at her, and Gyo chuckled silently. Hayan had listed a few things J’lenn didn’t like, and Gyo felt herself giggle with child like joy. She didn’t usually tease people, but this man… he was such a fuddy duddy! She let the temperature drop inside the kitchens slightly, and drop some more, so that a few people were looking around them, confused. J’lenn paled, but sat, ignoring the rapidly dropping temperature. Slowly, it started to snow, small drifts, which made everyone look around, searching for the source. Gyo reached forward to tap the man’s shoulder, but he jumped up as if he’d been scorched. He turned hostile eyes at Gyo, who stared up at them. As J’lenn was about to open his mouth, Kyu came to the rescue.

“I believe Gyo, that its time to go. Don’t you?” He looked up at the men coolly. “I’ve got Tamos waiting for us. Now, if you’ll excuse us?”

J’lenn nodded, and watched the couple go, confused and annoyed by the girl. As he was about to sit down, she turned, and pointed to the man she was with, and mouthed ‘he’s a ghost.’ And J’lenn almost felt his patience snap.

Another visit to another place. .

Gyo chuckled, thinking of J’lenn’s reaction when she told him that Kyu was a ghost. Kyu looked down, curious, as Gyo explained to him what happened. Sighing, Kyu shook his head, yet his mouth betrayed a smile.
“Gyo, you shouldn’t have teased him so much. I have a feeling your not on his list of favorite people.”

Gyo made a face. “But it was irresistible!” Seeing the expression on his face, she sighed. “Alright then, I won’t do something like that again…” As they mounted onto Tamos, Gyo turned to look back at Kyu. “Kyu, do you want to visit the Vella Crean? You know, the place where we met?”

Kyu’s face lit up in a radiant smile then, as he remembered the first day they had met. The first they, their souls had met. He nodded eagerly, as they boarded Tamos. The trip to the Vella Crean was quick, and when they landed, everything seemed to be the same. A blonde woman walked towards them as they slid of Tamos’s back. She raised her eyes to look at them, and smiled.

“Welcome to the Vella Crean. My name is Naeodin, Head of the VC. What brings you here to our new home.?” Her tone was friendly and curious, and Kyu couldn’t help but wonder.

“What do you mean by new? We were here 200 years ago.”

Naeodin frowned as she looked up at them. “200 years? This place was founded 4 years ago!” She paused, deep in thought. “You know what, that’s interesting. When I first arrived, I thought that things looked too good…” She muttered to herself. Looking up, she smiled. “200 years? I don’t think I know anyone old enough to have been around then. Come, talk with me in my rooms, maybe you could tell me what this place was like back then? I would like to know about the Vella Crean before it became the Vella Crean.” She paused. “Unless it was named that as well?”

Gyo and Kyu looked at each other, and grinned. This would be their second time when they would tell the story of part of their lives. Nodding, they followed Naeodin back to her rooms, where they began to tell their story.

New friends .

Naeodin listened quietly, and she got them to tell the story of their lives, after listening to the description of the VC. Her interest and curiosity grew anew as they finished telling their story, and she got Sasiath to message Mia and B’nir, to haul their butts up to her room. As she might have found two very interesting people.
Her family didn’t take long to arrive, and as they did, Gyo and Kyu repeated their story all over again. But they didn’t mind. These people were polite, and it seemed that each time they told the story; they remembered tiny bits of detail they had forgotten in the previous story. So it was for their own good as well.

Mia chewed on her thumbnail thoughtfully, before speaking up. “You are very interesting people. Why don’t you two stay for a while? You can look around the new VC, and I can find out more about both of you.” She grinned, as if pleased with herself. “And maybe, you can make it colder her.” She said to Gyo. “Its cold, but it never snows. I’ve never had a chance to make a snow angel!” She complained. “I was suppose to make one for my Dad’s birthday, but it didn’t snow.”

Gyo chuckled, remembering when she had once been a teen. Yet had she been as frank and as friendly as this girl here? She knew her sister had been. But had hadn’t. “Of course I’ll make it snow. But not for long, I don’t want my parents suspecting anything.” And the adult’s confused look, she explained. “My parents too live in the Nexus. We live on Kumos, a planet not very far from this one. And they have the ability to find out if their children are using their… gift somewhere else. Sometimes, we are too close to our own planet, and what we’re doing then, sometimes echoes off Kumos.” She chuckled. At the winter that had just started, she didn’t want something to backfire.

A quick twist of fate

The visit was extended to a week. Then the week turned to a month. Kyu and Gyo became friends with Naeodin, B’nir, and Mia. And then the friendship turned to something closer. Within a month, the group almost became inseparable. But the couple knew that they had to leave. They were having fun alright, but it was getting late, and they knew that Gyo’s parents might be wondering where they were.
As they headed slowly down to the Feeding Grounds, Tamos looked up sluggishly. He had kept them up all night with complaints about moving. As he approached them, the couple laughed at the sulky look the gray dragon wore. Kyu helped Gyo onto Tamos’s back, when he spotted a rather large blue dragon who landed hurriedly.
They paused for a while, wondering who was in such a rush, when the rider pulled his helmet off, and they saw the familiar frown of J’lenn. He spotted them, and walked forwards, his frown deepening at each step. It got them to feel edgy, wondering if he was still angry about their last encounter. The blue followed, and paused near them.

“If I may speak with both of you?” His voice was curt, and almost angry. Definitely sulky. Both nodded, and Gyo was helped down as they stepped near the man. “Could I have your names?”

“My name is Gyo, and this is my husband, Kyu.” Gyo answered warily, her mind flashing with torture images. She knew in a way, that he wouldn’t, but his tone of voice… got her wondering.

“Well Gyo, it is my greatest privilege to ask you to stand as a candidate at the Flurry sands.” His voice sounded almost sarcastic, but as Gyo looked back into the blue dragon’s eyes, and saw the amused and excited looking them, Gyo softened.

“Searched?” She asked, her tone polite, barely hiding her excitement. Her? Searched? “You mean, as in, I get to be a candidate, and I might bond with a dragon?” At J’lenn’s nod, her smile widened. She turned to Kyu, a curious look on her face, which fell into a mischievous one. “Tamos might have company now!” She turned to J’lenn, and ran up to him to give him a hug. He stilled, and tensed. Jumping back, Gyo grinned impishly. “Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you.”

Kyu chuckled, staring down with wondering eyes at his love, amazed at what had just happened. “Gyo, you’re a candidate now.”

Gyo nodded, excited. The stilled. “Kyu was a normal mortal when he impressed, would something bond me?” The question was directed to J’lenn.

He let out a snort of amusement, which made Gyo blink with surprise. “Girl, with the things I’ve seen impressed and impress, your almost normal!”

Gyo giggled, and gazed up curiously at J’lenn. Coming from him, she’d take that as a compliment.

The bonding

Gyo stood side by side with Kyu, and smiled up at the gray Tamo. He was old... no, he was an ancient dragon. Yet at the way he was peering down at her new impressed Neigeth, with such adoration and fascination, he only seemed to be a young 4 year dragon.

I never knew they made dragons this tiny... he muttered, looking down at the hatchling in awe. Gyo leaned against Kyu, and smiled faintly.
Speak for yourself, old man! When I grow up, I'll be bigger and faster then you are! The light purple-gray-white dragon looked up at the elder gray and stuck her tongue out.
"Neigheth! Behave yourself. Your going to be stuck with each other for along time."

Noooooooooooo! they both muttered.
Gyo looked up at Kyu, and smiled. Her look was pure evil as she whispered something into his ear. He grinned.

Sorry, no story

As Gyo leaned into Kyu's arms, she let out a satisfied sigh. Neigeth gazed up at her rider, and swished her tail with a smack, right into Tamo's face. As she smirked, Gyo giggled and watched as Tamo flew after her.
"They would make a good pair." Kyu muttered, as he looked down at Gyo. "Neigeth is an adult now, isn't she? Where will we be going next?" he asked, curious. Although it didn't make a difference to him -him being dead and all- he wanted to see his girl happy.

Gyo smiled. "We'll be going to the Vella Crean, I suppose. Naeodin has already offered us a position in a wing." she sighed. "Although I don't think we'll be moving quite yet." her smile turned mischievious. "Now that Neigheth is all grown up, and I'm not looking after her, why don't we take a little.. holiday, back to Kumos?" As her smile turned sly, Kyu caught her meaning.

"You little devil you..." he whispered, chuckling.
