Rean's main Story

It was midday, when Rean made her way aimlessly through a field of snow, wondering where she'd be able to find a place to stay.
Meanwhile, Caulodern was playing in the deep snow not far from his home of Haelfaren, most of the time only his shaggy black hair could be seen above the massive rifts that formed everywhere. After being defeated several times trying to make a snowman of sorts he collapsed against a tree. But soon the sound of footsteps approached and he jumped up quickly, dashing behind his backrest. He looked rather comical being 17 and less than 4 feet tall. His fluffy blue, silver, and gold robes making him look rather much like a pompous prince. As he watched a very tall woman come near the idea formed in his stuffy little head to give her a good whopper of a snowball right at the head.
Raen walked silently, and lifted herself, so that her feet barely made any prints on the snow. She looked around, frowning. Now where was a good inn when she needed one? Should’ve never left that village in the first place. she thought.
Cauledern smiled wickedly to himself as the woman came closer, she looked a little lost, like she could really use a whopper in the face. With a little bit of a struggle he formed a very large snowball, packed with ice and a little dirt even. Then with a huge heave he tossed it towards the woman. Succeeding in making a small 'piff' in the snow about seven or eight feet away from her. She hardly noticed it, and that annoyed Caul greatly. After all, he was Cauledern of Amich, everything should go his way right? So with even more determination and struggling he formed a larger lighter snowball and ran as fast as his short little legs could carry him to one of the low branched trees. With several heaves he had made it to the lower branches -his snowball quite diminished- and to his disappointment it made little more than a light powdering on the girl's head. He was now becoming steamed at his failures...
Rean paused after hearing something land with a plop. Shrugging, she moved onwards, when she felt something land on her head. Running her fingers through her hair, she frowned. Must have been the wind, knocking some snow off the branches. She looked around, and stood, wondering which way to go first.
In his fury Cauledern began to sway in the tree, and before he could react he fell with a muffled 'omph' into the deep snow. He was now becoming thoroughly steamed, and his shaggy hair started to float on the rising heat. He struggled out of the snow and formed his largest snowball yet, then charging he planned to throw the massive ball of slush at this incompetent woman. He this time succeeded in running head on into Rean's rear end.
Rean heard before she felt something run into her rear. Yelping, she turns around to see a 4 year old kid looking up at her, as if pleased. She looked, and started to giggle at his wild clothing. The giggle turned into laughs, as she fell into the snow, laughing.

Getting up, she chuckles, wiping tears from her eyes, muttering to herself. "Don't want the tears to freeze up, do I?"

Caul frowned and he tried to reach for her with his short arms so he could tackle her with more snow.

Grinning, Rean looked down at the little boy, and started to feel sorry for him. "Awww..." she murmured.

With extreme annoyance Caul charged at Rean hoping to knock her into the snow. Watching the kid run at her, she growled. Seeing how short he was, she stuck out her hand, and held him in his place by his head, and watched him try to run... and wondered when he'd realize that he wasn't going anywhere.
After wearing quite a rut in the snow Caul finally started to realize he wasn't getting any closer and the steam from his head became rather cloudy. As you might imagine when the temperatures are well below freezing point, all that steam made his hair turn into icicles pointing this way and that all over his head.
Rean felt rather then saw the tiny pricks of hair jab her skin, and let go, swearing violently. As he fell back, she quickly created a loose snowball, and threw it at the pile of spikes. Stupid boy! What is he, a human porcupine?! She fumed.
Caul fell backwards rather violently, creating a small outline in the snow where a person should be. Then the snow around him toppled and all that was to be seen were a few spikes of ice and the upper part of his scepter.
Rean watched, and started to laugh again. Then she stopped, feeling sorry for the kid. After all, it wasn't his fault he was so bad tempered.

Reaching over, she pulled him up by the scepter, surprised at how heavy the kid was. Lifting him up so that they were eye level, she asked.
"Whats your name kid? I haven't laughed this hard in days!"

Cauledern became stone faced as Rean lifted him out of the snow and he clung with both hands to his bronze scepter. After much uncomfortable silence he pouted and then with much dignity pronounced his name.
"Prince Cauledern of Clan Amich, the Fiery One of the Sickle" With that he turned his head and glared at nothing in particular.

Rean frowned, and a quirky smile appeared on her lips. "Well then your highness, how old are you, and what are you doing out here all alone?! You can't be more then 4, and where are your parents? You should be at home...." and continued for... about 15 minutes, amused, and at the same time, worried about the kid.

Caul winced slightly as this girl started her very boring lecture. When he couldn't take it any longer he moved to cover his ears and do the 'Nya-nya'. At the last second he realized his error and slipped into the large rift of snow that had formed below him.

Giggling, Rean pulled him out of the snow.
"My name is Rean, just in case you were interested. Come, I'll take you home. You’re from around here, aren't you? And you can show me the nearest inn when we get to your home." Her tone was firm, and was the tone she used when she wanted no disobeying. -She had years of practice-

Caul frowned, his spiked hair flattening rather comically, without a word he took Rean's hand and started to pull her away from the snow covered field and toward what could have been a path going through the trees.
Rean smiled, and followed the kid, and started to talk small talk. Caul covered his ears, but for some strange reason, Rean actually started to amuse him, so he listened.

Rean smiled as Caul listened, and looked around her. The place was... nice. Grinning, she looked down. "So kid, what’s this place like? The food good? What about the drinks?" She looked down, and wondered how old he was.

Caul rolled his eyes. "The food is well enough if you like fancy low calorie meals," He stuck out his tongue and continued. "The wine is good, pressed from nearby orchards. The summer is quite a time for celebrations and such, you've come at way the wrong time though for any of that." He giggled and picked up some snow, packing it tight. "Icicle to quench your thirst?"

Rean looked down at the kid, wary. This was the most he had said while with her. But she shrugged. Ice was not going to hurt her. "Sure" she said, grinned. She groaned. "Low calorie?" She looked down, her face a grimace. "Any chocolate, or cakes, pastries perhaps?" She grinned. "I was never a healthy eater."

Caul laughed as he eased up a bit. "I keep a private stash for those really bland meals. It's the best chocolate within a seven galaxy radius." He winked and reached into the thick folds of his robes and pulled out a small metal tin. Taking off the lid he showed Rean a very delicious looking assortment of the good stuff.

Rean grinned, and then started to reach for the tin. She chuckled, and drew her hand back. "You shouldn't trust me with sweet stuff." she winked back. "I've been known to eat enough goodies to feed a whole village." She joked.

Caul smirked, "They don't know I've been eating enough sweets to feed a whole village! But... if you don't want any..."

Rean gave Caul a stricken look. "Are you crazy?!" she asked, astonished. "Of course I want some!" then she started to giggle. Looking into the tin, she frowned. "Now what’s this one?" she said, pulled a sweet out. Putting it back, she stood there, repeating the same movements again and again, until she looked down at Caul for help.

He laughed at her antics. "Just try them!"

Rean grinned, and pulled out a short and square sweet. Unwrapping it, she giggled with delight at the sight of a piece of white chocolate, and popped it into her mouth. "Mmmmmmmmm." she said, and grinned. "This stuff is so good!" She reached for another one, and popped it into her mouth as well. After her second one, she stopped, her eyes grinning. "They are so good!" She grinned. "After these, I don't think I'll ever eat another piece of healthy food ever again."

Caul giggled and took a couple for himself, then he closed the tin and stuffed it back in his robes. "We'll save these for later." he winked and then pointed to a cliff-set little town. "That's Haelfaren."

"Awwwwww" Rean let out. "It looks so cute from here!" She grinned. "Well come on, lets go!" She looked around. "Its not dark, but I want to make sure your home safe, and that I have a place to stay."

"Hey Cauli! Who's the chick? You aren't taking her home to your evil dark dungeon are you?" A tall lanky figure came into view and bumped Caul out of the way. "Hey babe, what's your name?"

Rean watched with amusement as the lanky figure came into view. "The names Rean, not babe." she raised an eyebrow, and went over to Caul, to make sure he was alright. She looked back at the tall figure. "Yours?"

The young man smirked. "Beluswan of Clan Amich, if that pleases you Chicky."

Rean looked the figure up at down. "Well Swany, tell me... are all the guys here like you?" her voice was coy.

Beluswan laughed and wrapped his arm around Rean's waist. "No just the good looking ones. Oh and I wouldn't bother with the little dude, he's seventeen, he can well take care of himself. No reason for the brat to trouble a chick like you is there?" Caul was steaming again, and was getting to be quite stuffy. With strong determination he began to form a very large snowball.

Rean laughed, and looked up at Beluswan. She looked behind him, and saw Caul, and started to giggle. "I'd rather be troubled by a brat, then a egotistic male." she replied sweetly.

With that a massive sneaky snowball flew through the air knocking Beluswan flat on his face. Caul took Rean's hand and lead her the rest of the way home, his hair well misted with steam.

Rean laughed as she ran after Caul, giggling. "17 are you?" she looked down, her eyes filled with humour. "That was a really good shot!"

Caul smiled wickedly "Why thank you, It was one of my better throws... If I do say so myself. Yes I'm seventeen, does that surprise you?" Caul looked a little taller than he had before, but maybe that was just an illusion.

Rean grinned. "Well, even if you are the same age as me, I'm not going to stop calling you kid." she teased.

Caul stuck out his tongue at her just as they went inside one of the larger buildings in town; this was obviously the inn. Caul stuck out his tongue at her just as they went inside one of the larger buildings in town; this was obviously the inn. Several people turned their heads when Caul came in with a very interesting looking tall young woman.

Rean looked around, grinned. "Nice, better then the village I was at before." She looked down at Caul. "Well kid, just because your 17 doesn't mean your going to side track me." She grinned. "But first, I need a room." She looked down, and whispered. "What does your clan's money look like, anyway?"

Caul smiled, "Don't worry about it, I'll pay."

Rean let out a laugh. "How will I pay you back?"

Half the people in the room looked quite strange, and a few of them gave catcalls to Rean. Strange looking or acting people seemed to be the trend. Caul sent a few shriveling looks this way and that, strangely many in the room became silent. He looked up to her and grinned.
"You could be my baby-sitter."

Rean heard the catcalls, and she turned, giving a bow. As they turned silent, she looked around with curiosity. People were so... unique looking. She looked up at Caul. "Baby-sitter?" She grinned. "You mean kid-that-is-the-same-age-I-am sitter."

Caul chuckled, "Yeah something like that, C'mon I'll show your around the town." He took Rean's hand again and led her back out the door.

Grinning, Rean followed, liking Caul. She looked around, and listened as Caul talked to her, and told her about the many places here. Just as they were about to head back for the inn a large blue dragon broke through the snow clouds and landed before them. Rean looked up, and frowned. Shading her eyes from the sun, she looked closely at the figure who was slowly getting off the dragons back. Caul was half buried in the snow that came flying from under Blue Ancith's wings. He could just see over the rift in front of him.

Grinning, Rean pulled him out of the snow, and set him back in place on the ground. "Hello." she called out warily.

R'lan smiled when he saw Caul lifted out of the snow. "Hello! This is Ancith, and I'm R'lan, we're on search for Ryslen Weyr's Winter Flurry clutch, and I think we've just found who we were looking for."

Rean grinned, and looked down at Caul."Here that kid? You've been searched."

Caul frowned slightly, looked at R'lan, then looked at Rean, and then back to R'lan and Ancith. "What about Rean?" R'lan smiled, "She can come too if she wants, but she hasn't been searched. How old are you by the way?"

Caul grinned, "Seventeen, and I'll come as long as she can."

R'lan laughed, "well I'll be."

Rean chuckled as she looked down at Caul. "Well, this way I can keep an eye on you." She bent down to whisper. "Which means no throwing snow balls and everyone, and to save me some of your chocolate."

Caul laughed and then ran into a smallish house. He was back quick as a flash with something rather largish tucked under his robes. "Okay, I'm ready!" He winked at Rean and took her hand.

Rean grinned, and walked towards the blue dragon with Caul, as they were helped up.

Rean

Rean whistled as she looked around the Weyrbowl of Ryslen. She grinned as she looked down at Caul, and tried to reach into the robe to bring out the tin of goodies. But just as she was about to pull them out, a large bugle caught her unaware, and got her to jump up in alarm.
She turned, to see another blue rider and dragon behind them. She slipped the tin back into Caul's pocket, and looked up innocently.

"R'lan, so you have a few more candidates for the Flurry?"

As they were helped off the back of the dragon by the rider, Caul looked up at her, and winked knowingly. She mouthed back what did I do? and he pointed to the chocolates. She grinned, when her attention was caught again by the two riders.

"Yeah, this kid is actually 17. His name is Caul, and he'll be standing at the Flurry."

Rean looked up at the other rider, and saw a twinkle in his eyes.
"Ofcourse...only Caul" he murmured.

Past stages are above.

Garenashioth was soon nicknamed Genshi for short, and she got along 'very well' with 'Bobo', her own nickname for Caul's bronze. Although they didn't try to tear each other's wher-hide off -yet-, they were not the most nicest to each other. Rean and Caul got along well though... it was three years after they had both bonded with their lifemates.

Rean gazed over at the sleeping form of Genshi, and smiled. Turning to Caul, she asked.
"What are you going to do next?"
She grinned warmly at the friend who had managed to help her change her life. Although he may only look like a four year old kid, he did act older. -That is... unless Bobo was nearby.-.

Caul smiled, and muttered something that sounded like 'oh, this and that', when they both glanced over, slightly distracted as Bobo and Genshi had a mental arguement. Rean chuckled. Your going to miss him if he goes away. she told her cream. You know if.

"And you? What will you be doing?" Caul asked.

Rean smiled. "As far as I know, we'll be heading towards the Vella Crean. Its a sort of... place, set up for dragons." her smile widened. "Maybe I'll see you sometime..."

Caul grinned. "Yeah, maybe."
