This is a picture of my Volkswagen Golf Gti 16V Mk.2
I got this car while I was doing my MBA at Western Michigan University. Its was rescued from a dealer in Lansing MI for USD5,500.00 with only 60,000 miles. This Mica Pearl Red car was a 1988 model and came with the standard teardrop wheels and would produce 134bhp from its 1.8l 16V engine. There is a manual sunroof and windows are manually wound. All Gti's came with a close ratio gearbox and will top-out at 130mph.
I began to restore the car almost immediately or when funds permitted
First I took care of some rust which was beginning to form at the rear hatch area. Soon afters that I had the
car fitted with after market hop-up bits to replace things that were old and in need of replacement.. In went those huge 16 inch OZ Monte Carlo's and Pirelli's finest tires which was bought from The TireRack. I had Sachs Turbo Boge shocks matched to Spax springs installed by a shop. I DIY a Neuspeed Strut Bar and Short Shift kit during one of the weekends.  In a course of a few months I also added a Momo steering wheel and shift knob, full tinting of the windows , K&N filter and a Techtonic Tuning exhaust system.

Ahh those fond memories of cruising in this beast of Germanic origin. 4 wheel drifts were easily induced or should I say provoked with throttle lift-off. Best fun was winter driving in the school parking lot after a dusting of snow over night. I learnt to control drifts as well as use the handbrake to turn this car. Truly a rewarding car to drive. Did I mention that this car IS LOUD!!!

It is interesting to note that VW's in America came with square lights wheres most other countries had those with 4 round lights. These models with those 4 round lights were only available in America from 1990 onwards in 2.0l 16V and 1.8l 8V formats which is easily distinguished as it came with bigger bumpers.

This was actually my second VW Gti. I had owned a 1996 8V version for about 3 months before I sold it off.
