| These poems are brand new and based on the recent attacks on the United States of America. Four planes were hijacked here on September 11, 2001. | Terrorism ------------ Tragedy strikes not far from home A few thousand miles, that's all I slept in my bed calmly While planes crashed into twin towers The pentagon stands Yet it stands in ruins Victims of the crashes calculate to 266 I slept in my bed And knew nothing of all this Woken up by a phone call, "It's fucking Armageddon," he said I knew not what it meant And to tell you the truth, I still may not grasp the horror Yesterday America was a strong home Today America is a scared land What will we be tomorrow? I pray in silence And I hope for better hours But I expect worse I expect a doomsday for days to come So while I wait, Alongside my fellow Americans I wish to tell them That they are loved And to look to the next few days With rays of hope But also to proceed cautiously For in the face of tragedy One must be aware Arguments will erupt Fights will occur And more importantly Human kindness will prevail. | Tragedy Strikes ------------------- In this time of silent, unutterable prayers In this time when each of us face our own worst fears In this time when our own freedom is being attacked We stand tall We stand United We stand as one Nation, under God. Two planes crashed into Twin Towers of what was The World Trade Center The Manhattan skyline has never looked so devoid Sirens still blare Remaining in homes, utter despair. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon A symbol of who we are, What we fight for, And a sign that says this is OUR land Crashed into, Lives taken. And yet one more plane crashed An hour after the other three landed, In buildings! No direct target hit Though lives were lost Gone from us forever. Vigils are being held Candles lit Prayers sent And love shown What do you tell the children of our nation? Or the adults still not yet grasping? How do you calm the terror in your heart? And why must it be so hard to sleep at night? Still we stand tall We stand United We stand as one Nation, under God. And we will PREVAIL!
