You've found your way here, so sit back and pay attention.  We're only
gonna say this once.

 Velyr are genetically engineered beings.  We've been created to exist in a certain environment, created to think and act in certain ways.  Humans have a lot more freedom than we do, but they take it for granted (as they take most facts of life for granted).

We can only digest liquids, which leaves most of human culinary arts to our imagination.  We exist mostly on proteins, and the most common source of liquid protein is blood.  We're designed to take only small amounts at a time, leaving the host animal healthy.  Most of us prefer nonhuman blood for our meals (preying on another sentient species is an intergalactic faux pas).

We were designed with "fangs" and "claws" (compared to the puny human equivalents), which we can disguise in order to appear human.  These are used for defense, as our home planet is populated with several large, aggressive animal species.

We are also designed to live in a desert climate, which makes living in Russia or Brazil somewhat uncomfortable.  Most of us have migrated to the hot, arid parts of  Earth.

We heal more quickly than humans, so we're not as worried about getting hurt.  Humans tend to think of us as impulsive, reckless, and immoral.  We tend to think of humans as closed-minded, anxiety-ridden, and prudish, so it evens out.
