The Wheel Of The Year
During each calander year, there are eight (8) standard holidays. These are called Sabbats and are solar holidays that are connected with the sun diety. The eight sabbats recognize seasonal birth, death and rebirth.
If you are just beggining your journey into the craft, and you do not feel comfortable giving up your previous holidays, then don't! Thats the wonderful thing about the craft! You can still celebrate the comming of Santa Clause on December 25th while celebrating Yule around the same time! Some Wiccans may argue that it is not right to celebrate some holidays, like Christmas, BUT, if you look closley at the descriptions of each Sabbat below, you will see that some resemble on another (ie. Christmas and Yule)
Sooner or later you may wish to drop some of your previous holidays, if you feel comfortable doing this, then do so. Its your decision.
"By the first turn of the wheel, you may find that you have missed some of your Craft celebrations. . .Dont worry about it. It is difficult to expect a person to totally trash how they have been living for several years and pick up a whole new set of realities" - Silver RavenWolf, To Ride a Silver Broomstick.

During your first year, its ok to miss some of the holidays if you absolutley cant remember, The God and The Goddess will not mind at all, we promise.
Well, now that you know WHAT a Sabbat is, why dont you go and learn about each seperate Sabbat? We will start with Yule, since it is the first Sabbat after the Witch's New Year, (Samhain)
