Gods of Iamoore To understand the deities of the world now known as Iamoore one must go back into the far past long before recorded time. Back when Iamoore was given the name of Terra 2 after the planet the inhabitants originally came from. Initially, the colonist had not intended to land on this planet. They were bound for a completely different destination however an error in the celestial navigation system had caused them to stray far off course while the passengers slept in cryo sleep into an area not located on any current charts. The ship had been designed for one trip so the new colonist found themselves stranded cut off from the rest of the Confederation. Fortunately the planet they christened Terra 2 was extremely inhabitable so Earth-like in fact it was almost uncanny. However, their new home did have one crucial difference. The planet had an unusual property which when properly utilized could allow people to do truly incredible things. The colonist called the odd property manna after the inner power ascribed to those mystics still in existence on the home world. This new ability to manipulate the very fabric of reality was strongest among those few beings comprising the Psionic Corp which accompanied all new colonies. These beings with already enhanced abilities actually seemed to meld with manna, performing feats normally ascribed to gods of old. Others among the colonist had the abilities but none to the extant of the Psionics. Most of the true names of these individuals have been lost in the mist of time. Only the name of Commander Tara Singleton survives at least among the now higher powers. She was leader of the counseling branch of the Corp and also the one whom all even those of the enforcement branch answered to not mention she had the highest PQ(Psion Quotient ). She was also the only member to become pregnant, though whether this was by traditional means or somehow caused by the manna has never been determined. Nevertheless, Tara gave birth to two daughters, both were identical at birth but as the grew they became dramatically different. The one named Velia turned into a golden beauty with fair skin and soft blue eyes. The other was known as Melissa but preferred to be called Malice. Malice had skin that was ebony black as was her raven tresses and eyes red like a burning flame. Both children matured rapidly reaching adulthood in just over a few years. The rest of the world was changing as well, those more open to manna began to evolve in what is now called the elven race becoming slim and lithe graceful beings. Those with very little connection became stunted growing excessive hair in both genders creating the race of dwarves. The Corp member also found out long ago that they no longer aged becoming immortal. Meanwhile, as the two new members of the Psionics grew their apparent different philosophies emerged. Velia believed that they should remain apart from the populace nurturing them allowing each being to choose their own path. Malice believed that the beings not blessed with the powers of the Corp needed to be controlled directly by them. She felt the power they possessed gave them the manifest right to control the lesser unfortunates. Having maintained a policy of separation from the bulk of the inhabitants it was easy to determine which child Tara favored. This fact enraged Malice who managed to gather a few of the members of the Corp to her cause. Once she felt she had a strong following she challenged her mother who still remained firm in her decision. Malice appeared to bow to the wishes of her mother still leader of the Psionic Corp. Then, while her mothers back was turned the dark Malice shot Tara with one of the ancient weapons of the past, apparently one capable of slaying members of the Corp. The death of Tara caused a horrible civil conflict to break out between the two factions each led by one of the sisters. Whose hatred of each other had reached fanatical proportions. The terrible war even spilled out to the adjoining regions of the world engulfing the hapless souls in the titanic conflict of the Psionic Corp. The man who was later to become Silvanus realized the warfare needed to cease however he lacked the power to do so, neither side no longer listening to reason. Then by accident as he aided some of the pathetic beings ravaged by the battle he made a great discovery. The beleaguered beings later to be called elves started to think of the kind man as a deity. The man discovered his own connection to the manna and power increased as did their belief. He reasoned that somehow the belief transferred their own gathered manna to him. Distasteful as it may be the man who decided to call himself Silvanus after the Celtic god of Nature and balance then set about recruiting followers increasing his own power base as he did so. Most of the other members of the Corp were so embroiled in the conflict they failed to notice the discovery. Only Silvanus’s wife who took the name Mathyr after another Celtic personality followed her husbands plan. The other Corp members learned too late of Silvanus and Mathyr discovery the two having grown in power, powerful enough to order an end to the conflict. Alas the terrible battle had thrown those below back into a state of savagery the remains of the past and proud accomplishments now in ashes from the conflict. The devastated world was prime ground for the other members of the old Psionic Corp as they rushed to recruit members to their beliefs. Some took names of ancient deities following the example Silvanus such as the woman who had been the inquisitor of the Corp who adopted the name of the being known as Lovitar, a Slavic legendry figure known for great cruelty and torture. Others chose names unique to themselves or slightly changing the names of old deities to their liking. A charter was drawn up by Silvanus placing each new deity in control of particular sphere. This had a two-fold effect; it placed each deity in specific order and relegated according to the charter what they could or could not involve themselves in, the other was far more practical giving the new followers a focus in which to concentrate their beliefs. The battle between Velia and Malice would continue though now the restrictions had been placed upon the conflict. As their power grew the new deities created individual dimensional pockets reflecting their new position within the pantheon. The new gods could even pull spirits of their followers to their dimension though only for a short period for some reason the spirits returned back to the world to be born into a new husk. Apparently a power even stronger then the new gods still had the ultimate control. Some believe that Tara did not truly die but became completely one with the manna. This appears to be very logical reason the spirits were unable to stay within the realm of their chosen deity. So the gods and goddesses of Iamoore were born. The civilization on the world now called Iamoore by the inhabitants grew bringing about the age of Mage Kings which continued till it ended in the terrible conflict called the Gem Wars. |
