Items
This enormous game is full of items. What this page will do is tell you how to find some of the more important items, such as limit breaks, the golden chocobo, etc. If you want to find out anything doing with the standard materia, go to the Materia portion of this guide.
Limit Breaks
Each character has one ultimate limit break which can only be acquired by doing certain things in the world. I'm listing where to find those below:
Cloud Strife
Catastrophe
After you save North Corel by stopping the speeding train from crashing into it, talk to one of the villagers to receive it.
Tifa Lockhart
Final Heaven
Enter Tifa's room in Nibelheim, then play the correct song there to receive the limit break.
Aeris Gainsborough
Great Gospel
Near Midgar, in a cave, there is a sleeping man. You can visit him, and he will give mythril to you on one condition: the last two digits of the number of battles you have fought matches. So, for example, if you had fought 933 battles, you would receive the mythril. Once you have it, take the item to a weapon shop near the Golden Saucer and then choose the small box.
Red XIII
Cosmo Memory
Open the safe in the Nibelheim mansion. The combination to open it is right to 39, left to 10, right to 59, and right to 97. You must press the button as you hit each number, but if you go past the number you are aiming for, you fail and must start over. You have 20 seconds to succeed.
Cid Highwind
Highwind
Find the downed plain underwater and search it to find this guy's limit break attack.
Yuffie Kisagiri
All Creation
You must go to Wutai and successfully reach the top of the tower. This is not an easy task, and you should do it later in the game.
Vincent Valentine
Chaos
Enter the waterfall near Cosmo Canyon on the game's third disc when Vincent is in your active party. Go inside and the first time you will see a flashback. The next time you will receive the limit break.
Ultimate Weapons
Each character has an ultimate weapon which only they can equip. When they have that weapon, they're capable of doing serious damage which is normally impossible. Therefore, it pays to find the right weapons for the right members of your group.
Cloud
Item: Ultimate Weapon
On Disc 3, you must defeat the Ultimate Weapon. This battle is next to impossible, just so you know.
Aeris
Item: Princess Guard
You can find it in the Temple of the Ancients, where you manipulate the hands of the clock.
Tifa
Item: Premium Heart
First you must find a Sector 5 key in the Bone Village. Once you have that, go back to the Wall Market in Midgar and find the door you couldn't open before. Search the area now to find the weapon.
Barret
Item: Missing Score
When you raid Midgar at the end of the second disc, have Barret check the railing near the Sister Ray. You must search there during that raid, or the item will be lost forever.
Red XIII
Item: Limited Moon
You can get this by talking to Bugenhagen when he is about to die.
Cid
Item: Venus Gospel
Cid should talk to the man who stands by the launch site in rocket city a total of three times in order to receive this.
Cait Sith
Item: HP Shout
On disc 2, visit the Shinra building and search the lockers (they're on the 64th floor) to find this one.
Yuffie
Item: Conformer
Find this one in the wreckage of the Shinra plane, off the coast of Junon.
Vincent
Item: Death Penalty
Search the area behind the waterfall where you found his limit break. The waterfall is near Cosmo Canyon. You'll have to use a special chocobo to reach it.

Chocobo Breeding
If you want to be able to traverse every last inch of the planet, you will definitely need to devote a little time to raising some Chocobos. The Gold Chocobo is the only one, for example, who can help you reach the island where you find the most powerful summoning spell in the game, Knights of the Round. So buckle down and learn how to raise those birds.
Before you begin, make sure that you have rented out all the stalls in the Chocobo Farm. Six of them at the rate of 10,000 gil apiece will cost you 60,000 gil. Also, you need to have a lot of herbs that you can buy, and you want to have the chocobo lure materia equipped. When you have that set, follow the directions below:
1. Look for a running female and a walking male. You should get the running female by capturing her at the tracks west of Mideel. The walking male is hanging out at the tracks east of the Golden Saucer. Make sure you have a great female and a good male. Save your progress.
2. Breed your pets with a Carob Nut (you can get this by fighting the dinosaurs in the same valley as the Chocobo Sage's cabin). You want to breed until you have both a blue and a green chocobo, and they need to be of opposite gender and healthy. Once you've done that, save your progress again.
3. Buy 40 Silkis greens. Feed 10 to each of your chocobos. Now take them to the Chocobo races at the Golden Saucer. Race them until they are both at A-Class (this will take a fair chunk of time). Save your progress.
4. Now, once they are both at A-Class, rate your green and blue Chocobos using a carob nut and you will receive a black Chocobo. Feed it 10 silkis greens, then race it so that it, too, is A-class. Save your progres.
5. Now head to the tracks in the snow on the Northern Continent. Find a Chocobo that is of the opposite gender of your black one (it should also be a healthy one). Feed it 10 silkis greens, then go to the Golden Saucer and race it until it is A-Class. Save your progress yet again.
6. Head for Goblin Island. It's off in the water northeast of the chocobo farm. Fight the goblins there and steal a Zeio Nut. Save your progress.
7. Now use your Zeio Nut and breed your black Chocobo with the one you got from the snow area on the Northern Continent. The result should be a Golden Chocobo.
This was a long process, and will probably take at least a few hours to accomplish. Save after every minor accomplishment, and especially before breeding. Examine your Chocobos regularly in the stables, and only breed the ones that are healthy.
