Though these items might not seem all that spectacular, there are times when you'll definitely need to have them in your possession. A little knowledge about what does what goes a long way.

Angel's Tear
Another item useful mostly in longer battles. This will revive a party member but leaves them open to be struck down by even the weakest of enemies. Be prepared to follow this up with an herb or magical healing spell of one kind or another.

Cleansing Water
An in-battle item like this is valuable if you find yourself facing a boss who likes to paralyze party members. Otherwise, it's not very useful.

Dragonfly Wing
Using this takes you back to the entrance of an area. Most useful when you're trapped without hope of finding a statue, or when you're too lazy to backtrack.

Healing Nut
You'll want to use this in boss battles, where an enemy can do extreme damage to a party member and magic simply won't restore enough health.

Herb
You'll find these all over the place. They're especially welcome as the game begins, when they restore most of your health. Later, they're next to worthless.

Holy Water
Another in-battle sort of item. This will cure almost any status ailment, so you might want to use it as a last resort and save it for true emergencies.

Life Jewel
Obviously, this is one of those rare items you want to use only if you're in a true pinch. Intelligent combat will often prevent you from needing this, so save it as long as possible. It restores 200 health to every party member with one use.

Passion Fruit
This item is as precious as gold. Save it for later in the game, when it does more good and the enemies are tougher.

Purity Herb
Many enemies that can poison party members leave these behind. You can also buy them in some towns for a cheap price. I've only found them useful in long battles where an enemy only occasionally poisons you.

Silver Light
In a long battle, when your magic runs out and you're fairly certain the battle has a while to go, still, this item is pure heaven. Use it sparingly.

Star Light
Few sights are more welcome than finding these in early dungeons. You can't buy them in towns until later in the game. Use them sparingly.

Vitality Vial
If you have a status ailment in battle, this is the cure-all, with obvious exceptions. For example, it won't bring back a fainted friend. Darn.
